I like Hawaiian pizza, especially with Cajun seasoning sprinkled on top. But I prefer pepperoni and pineapple.

I thought I was the only one! As it turns out I actually have leftover pepperoni and pineapple from Papa John's in my fridge at this very moment. That's just mind bottling.

I love Hawaiian pizza. My stupid husband does not. Stupid husband.
I don't think so, therefore I'm probably not.

Count me in as a lover of Hawaiian pizza! My favourite. Imagine my disappointment when I came to live in Italy and discovered that not only does it not exist here, but that to ask for it is frowned upon. Greatly frowned upon.
However, when I fired up the pizza oven in the garden for the first time and invited my friends over, I made Hawaiian pizza. They couldn't eat enough....

I believe the egg on pizza mentioned upthread is actually of Italian origin, you will always find it on the menu here. It comes on the traditional 'capricciosa' pizza. Capricciosa means spoilt, as in a child who always gets their own way. The pizza has 5 different toppings because the eater wants everything... It comes with: ham, mushrooms, olives, artichokes and the egg.

Yes! Thank you! I was hangin' for three days on that one.

We've got some good food threads here; making me hungry. Back when I worked at a pizza place, we liked to mix it up for the buffet, with pizzas that weren't on the regular menu. I made a Hawaiian pizza once, with ham and pineappe -- and added some cherries. People ate it, but I haven't tried it since. Pizza is one of the great food inventions; starting with the crust, you can go several different ways in terms of ingredients and flavor. Use your imagination.

Anchovies take a pizza to that sublime place.

Hard to finds a pizza shop that does anchovies these days.

I had a pizza in Italy one time: olive oil base (no tomato sauce, just lightly herbed oil), anchovies and capers, and pecorino cheese. Never had anything like it anywhere else. Heavenly.

Capers are one of my all time favorites. Capers make everything better. Even Captain Crunch.

The pizza I had in Italy was shit but I did buy it from something that was more of a "fast food" hut on the side of the road. The fish I had was good, the spaghetti where I ate at a little place on the side of a mountain was absolutely the best I've ever had.

I had some dish in France that I still don't know what it was but damn it was good. I swear it was some sort of pea or bean mashed up in a mustard sauce served cool with a slice of meat on the side.

Great, now I want to order a Super Hawaiian with pineapple, bacon, ham, pepperoni, hot peppers and olives. If only there was a pizza joint that had capers as an option, it'd be perfect!

Hey, so we don't disagree on everything.

Ever had the full-size caperberry? What we know as capers are the buds; if you don't pick the bud, and let the plant fruit, you get a caperberry. Similar, but not the same, and it's HUGE. If you like capers, I recommend going to a place with some ethnic foods and tracking down a jar of caperberries.

Before I went vegetarian I loved Hawaiian pizza, which around that area was 'Canadian bacon' and pineapple, not pepperoni or ham. These days I prefer pineapple and black olives if I get that "Hawaiian" urge again - the olives provide a kind of savory tang that I liked in the Canadian bacon years ago.

Oh, yeah. I hardly ever have them because my girlfriend hates any kind of fish, and has a nose like a drug-sniffing dog.

If I find a good spot, I'll PM you, since I see that that you're my homeboy!

I'm imagining your girlfriend freezing then sniffing curiously at first, then with greater ardor when she catches the scent after you've had an anchovie or two.

And then, after eating it, I discovered my sensitivity to pineapple has not been outgrown and my mouth swelled up.

It's great, but I have to remember to precook the pineapple well to destroy the enzymes that I'm sensitive to, or else...pufferfish mouth!

I just mentioned that in the Culinary Rules thread.

I tooooooold you that you'd get smited!

More seriously, I don't much care for sweet with savory flavors. I've never liked the standard raisin sauce for ham. These days, all pork products are verbotten to me, anyways, so it's a moot point.

Of course, that leaves me free to make plenty spinach, garlic, feta, mushroom and onion pizza.

I like Hawaiian Pizza; both ham and pineapple are very tasty, as is cheese. It's a winning combination!

Having said that, Hawaiian is the "default" pizza around these parts; the safe one that everybody likes (before this thread I'd never come across someone who didn't like it). So, if you were having a party and wasn't sure what sort of pizza Jill would like and wasn't sure if Bob was going to bring his on-again-off-again girlfriend, then you'd grab a Hawaiian. I'd never make a Hawaiian my first choice because it's not very exciting, but if I was at a party or wherever and that was the pizza on offer, I'd happily eat it.

There aren't enough posts here saying that they hate Hawaiian pizza so let me add another. My bf also hates it, thank goodness because I don't know if I could love someone who liked Hawaiian pizza.

Hawaiian used to be my go-to pizza. I still love it, but sometimes I like a plain cheese, or pineapple with some other meat. Almost every pizza place puts too much pineapple on, so there's a mound of fruit left at the end, but a smallish amount of sweet fruit makes a pizza great.

We order 2 medium pizzas: Hawaiian and something else.

Our local shop makes the Hawaiian with smoked mozza. To elaborate on Rube's OP, it's the sweet juiciness of the pineapple and the acidic tomato sauce with the saltiness of the ham. It's the Holy Trinity of toppings. Add a shake of chile peppers and you're on the hot/sour/salty/sweet highway to Om nom.

And there is no better pizza cold for breakfast. Or for a hangover. IIRC that far back.

I've never had those - I've only had the capers that are packed in a jar. I must find some. I will be visiting the Whole Foods (yes, I have to travel to Birmingham to get to one) this weekend and I think I'll do a little huntin'.

But how would I eat that? Taking a big ol' bite out of it would be too overpowering I would thing.
