If South won Civil War, diplomatic relations with CSA?
If the South had won the Civil War, do you think the North would had recognized the CSA, and had/have diplomatic relations?

It would have taken awhile before the Union recognized the Confederation. I'm guessing at least 20 years and a few more lost border wars.

I agree, especially considering we took 30 years to recognize Communist nations.

It might've taken awhile... or, given the politics of the day, it might've just taken the election of the next Democratic administration. A President McClellan, Seymour or Hancock could conceivably have done it in relatively short order.

That's certainly true! McClellan almost won in '64 after all.

How Few Remain by Harry Turtledove is a pretty good alternative-history novel about the U.S. losing the Civil War in late 1862, and what happens afterwards. There's quite a bit on postwar U.S.-Confederate relations. Beware, here there be spoilers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_Few_Remain
