    Default Pre-Euro currencies

Which European currency was in use the longest? Is it possible to compare value over long times? (Century+)

Well GBP is the world's oldest currency - although that might not be what you were looking for. As a pre-Euro currency, it's probably the French Frank as most of the others were probably created in the last couple of centuries as Europe's borders kept changing.

What do you mean by compare value?

Would this be exchange rates which can be shown back over several decades. You should be able to find several historical pieces showing the rates between the various countries.
If you are looking for something akin to the Big Mac index - then you're unlikely to find anything.

Looking for say, how much would 1,000,000 francs in 1800 be worth now?

Depends on what you actually mean by value. Is that the purchasing power or the nominal value of the amount?

Have a look here to give you some idea of the difference in what value means and what currency from a while ago is worth now.
