    Default Rebuilding Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace was a wonder of British Engineering which stood atop a large hill in London until it burned down in a great fire in 1936. it was the largest construction of its kind of iron and glass at the time it was built for the Great Exhibition. The site is little more than ruins nowadays, there is a park and people ramble over it, but only a few pieces of it still remain.

The view is still gorgeous though.

Over the years several ideas have been put forward of what to do with the land including, I think the worst was putting a cinema on the site with a ski-slope.

However it seems that a Chinese investment firm are no looking to recreate it, or something close to it on the site. If they did, I would love to go back and see what they could do.

It's one of those areas of London, you just wish they could restore to its former glory.

Cool. I remember reading about the Crystal Palace during my high school obsession with the British Empire.

Wiki has an article about the original: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crystal_Palace

I always liked this picture of Queen Victoria opening it in 1851:

It is was of those near fabled World's Fair/Great Exhibition constructions.
The ones I would like to have seen include:
Great Exhibition of 1851 for the Crystal Palace,
    1964 New York World's Fair
World's Columbian Exposition (The Chicago World's Fair 1893)
International Exposition (1889) (Paris Worlds Fair) (Eiffel Tower)

My family went to the 64 World's Fair but I wasn't born yet.

These are the 4 I have read and heard the most about.
