    Default So Long Ray Harryhausen

One of cinema's greatest visionaries has died aged 93, although his skill with models is always going to be there.

Given just how cheap and easy CGI looks, it rarely has the realness that he was able to generate with models, which look as good today as they ever did.

That Medusa is still as scary as anything.

Thanks for the memories, Ray Harryhausen.

I would way sooner watch one of those corny old movies of his than any of today's CGI blockbusters. Maybe they just remind me of my childhood. I do know that I watched at least one of the Sinbad movies with my kid, and he enjoyed it as much as I did.

A giant of early Hollywood sfx. There was a nice salute to him in Monsters, Inc.:

    May he rest in peace.
