On top. Hole in the middle would never have occurred to me.
Neither: We mix it up so the spaghetti soaks in more of the flavor of the sauce.
Well, yeah, that's what I'd more often do, but might put it on top. I wonder if the hole in the middle is a British/Irish thing.
Related question: Who calls this dish "Spagbol"? Started hearing this on "Coronation Street" and took me a while to figure out what was meant.
Start it at the top for a better presentation, and let the diner mix it up if he or she wishes.
We always had everything all mixed up in the pot. Presentation was never much of a concern.

Hmmm...I usually serve the pasta, then plop the sauce on top. Never thought of making a hole for it first!
