I'm inclined to agree with you about Hiss, although the evidence, even using post-1991 Soviet files, is mixed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alger_...oviet_archives. It may now be impossible to ever know for sure. My grandfather died in 1979 and FWIW was convinced Hiss was innocent.
