    2. Rambo - woot I got one
    3. As I don't know how Jim Baker is, stumped again.

    Take another 2 DQs.

At this rate you are going to guess it before choie even posts.

    Hello boys.

    1. Were you known as the Desert Fox?
    3. A gentle soul by nature, are you the only one among four friends who wasn't either a bully or a vicious killer--although at certain times, you came close to turning into the latter?
    2. Did Snoopy consider you a mortal enemy, but only when he was sitting on his doghouse wearing goggles?

    Oh grief - I don't believe it....

The second most amusing thing is that I can answer all three questions straight off.

    3. The Red Baron
    2. Remus Lupin

And the even more amusing thing is that.

    1. Yes, good grief, I seriously don't believe it, but I am Erwin Rommel, the Desert Fox

First guess of the round and the good lady gets it.

    Ummm...wow!

Wow! Float in like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Sorry about that. Well, in fairness, I had EH's earlier DQs as a guide. Why I focused on the 20th century I'm not sure, since there was nothing pinning him to (what I still consider) modern times, but Rommel was very literally the first person I thought of.

    - No, I am not Admiral McHale, whose seafaring genius was the inspiration for the noted documentary-esque sitcom McHale's Navy. (No seriously, stumped, duh.)

    - No, I am not Malcolm X?

    - No, I am not Marian Anderson? I'm guessing her because she was the reason Eleanor Roosevelt resigned from the DAR (a question I think I gave in earlier rounds).

    1. DAMN. What's his name. Kyle Reese from Terminator, I had such a crush on the actor?!! OH Michael... Biehn? Beihn? No, I'm not him. Sigh, one of my many favorite characters who inevitably end up dying. (Oh dear, Rangin had better be careful; I probably should've warned you about that losing streak before getting him involved w/Kylah, CIAS...)

    2. No, I am not Don McLean, and thanks for getting the song stuck in my head.

    3. Oh you're cruel. Um. There's no way I know how to spell this guy's name, but I'm not Superman's puckish villain Mr. MzylSomeMishMashOfLetterspyk.

Correct as to all three and, no, I'm not expecting you to be able to spell Mr Mix-spittle-lick correct or Mister Mxyzptlk as it should be be spelt. That would be cruel

    1. Did you drop you cockney accent for your breakout role as an upper class officer?
    2. Do you refuse to accept you are as blind as a bat causing havoc on the way?

    1. Dick Van Dyke? HA just kidding. Hmm. It's very hard to imagine this, but when I hear 'cockney' I think Michael Caine. Except I thought his breakout role was Alfie, so I could be wrong. But wot the 'ell: nah, I don't fink I'm Michael bleedin' Caine.

    2. No, I'm not Mr. Magoo.

    3. This sounds like the Helen of Troy story, but it'll probably turn out to be Game of freaking Thrones. But I don't remember if Helen was married or just engaged when she was kidnapped. Still: No, I'm not Menelaus?

Nope, three for three again. The Michael Caine breakout movie I was thinking of is Zulu.

    1. Did your scrumping expedition turn into a much longer journey than expected?
    2. Did the film about you have your original actor play your father?
    3. Have you played both an astronaut and a stuntman?

Even I wouldn't insist on the correct spelling of that annoying Superman adversary.

    Previous IQs:

Were your theories of naval power influential in the early 1900s? - Alfred Thayer Mahan; Theodore Roosevelt was a fan
Were you most famously played by Denzel Washington? - Yes, Malcolm X
Did you sing at the segregated 1939 premiere of Gone with the Wind? - A very young Martin Luther King Jr., who sang with his church's gospel choir

Wow, I cannot fathom Michael Caine with an RP accent. I've gotta check this Zulu thing out. Is it as racist (well, imperialist) as I've always assumed it was?

    1. Scrumping is such a UK word. All I know is it means stealing apples... except with Lister from Red Dwarf, who'd go scrumping cars. Anyway... this is really a wild guess, but... is it Merry from LOTR? At least in the film no I still haven't read the books don't hit me, EH he and Pippin were stealing from Farmer MacGregor's vegetable patch. (Okay not really Farmer M. but the scene reminds me of Peter Rabbit!)

    2. Original actor. So... a play first? A TV show? Or a film remake? I'm gonna guess TV. Nope, I'm drawing a blank. I have a feeling I'm gonna be really annoyed at this one. Well, it could be one of the Churchills because I'm sure Robert Hardy has played every Churchill in the family tree, but I don't know of any "M" names. Plus, my guess this isn't a real person anyway. Argh.

    3. Damn, another one. Stuntman makes me think of a big guy, but astronauts don't tend to be muscular. Not a clue, I can't even think of anyone with an "M" name who's played an astronaut.

Oh crap, I knew that about Martin Luther King, EH! Damn and blast!

    1. Quel surprise, stumped.

    2. That would be Father Burlap McMartin, right? No, stumped again.

    3. The only one I can think of is Mike Stanley Dukakis, but you make it sound like the man is dead. Still, I'll go for Dukakis. (As I did in 1988, likely with as much luck!)

I always liked that MLK factoid, linking cinematic Lost Cause mythology with the man who arguably did more than anyone else to tear it down.

Hmm I just noticed that for the past day I haven't received any notifications to the three threads I'm subscribed to (STRPG setup, game thread, and this one). Either of you having problems with that?

    - Obviously stumped, this sounds like another ASoIaF/GoT reference (only assuming that because of the term 'red wedding' which I know through cultural osmosis; for all I know it could be Heinlein or someone else).

    - Her wot's King Arthur's half-sister and Mordrid's mom, plus (at least implied in the film) lover/student of Merlin, from Exclaiber. But I cannot believe the character's name is totally blank to me. Mag, Meg, Mar, Mel, Mer, Mog, Mor... GOT IT. Morgan le Fay! Or Morgana? I think they're the same person. Whew. No, I am not her, obviously.

    - Nope, not Nellie Melba! Man she's cropped up a lot in these rounds.

No, Zulu is not racist or imperialist and is surprisingly balanced. It may help that the Zulus were being played by the actual descendents of the Zulus at the battle. It's also an excellent film as well even with the few liberties it took.

    1. Yes, indeed, it is Meriadoc Brandybuck, who went scrumping for mushrooms with Pippin.
    2. This one may annoy you. The answer is Bret Maverick, originally played by Robert Garner, who went on to play his father in the film starring Mel Gibson.
    3. Heh, this one is a little sneaky. The answer is Lee Majors, star of The Fall Guy and the Six Million Dollar man. Steve Austin was an astronaut before the accident.

I'll have to give Zulu a look. And I can't believe I got that Merry question right, that was a shot in the dark. (Also, PS, you mean James Garner in Maverick. I didn't see the movie or TV series so I didn't have a chance, but I always did like Garner in everything he did. Lee Majors totally left my brain, and you're right I don't think I even knew Steve Austin started out as an astronaut.)

    3. I wish I could think of a player on the Orlando Magic other than Shaquille O'Neal and Anfernee Hardaway, because that would've been an awesome workaround. (I know it's a basketball team but surely they have baseball caps too.) But I can't, so I'm gonna have to say I'm stumped.

    1. Barnacle Boy? The only fishy/sea-based superhero I can think of is Aquaman, and if he actually has a sidekick named Barnacle Boy than he's even lamer than I thought. But I don't think his real name begins with an M anyway. So, stumped.

    2. I dunno. Marvin the Monkfish?

    3. No, I am not Man Ray? I can only think of him or Mapplethorpe, and I'm pretty sure Mapplethorpe was just a photographer, while Man Ray did do different kinds of artwork.

    1. This seems doubtful but.. No, I am not Richard M. Nixon? I don't know why he springs to mind, especially since I'm not sure you'd consider him an "M" name, but...

Oy veh, football. Probably both kinds, hand-to-ball or foot-to-ball, yet.

    1. No, I am not... erg, I can only think of one "M" football dude and that's just because of the videogames... John Madden?

    2. No, I am not Muhammed Ali.

    3. What the hell, I'll guess John Madden again. One of these might be right!

    1. No, I am not Martin Crane (good question!)

    2. Well, the only "M" I associate with a citadel is Judith Mossman from Half-Life 2, so I'm gonna have to say stumped

    3. DUDE. I dunno, William McKinley? Probably stumped again. He seems like he'd be born too late to have a dad in the Civil War, although I suppose his father could've been super-young.

Did you head The Citadel after WWII? - Gen. Mark Clark
Was your dad wounded at the Battle of Franklin, Tenn. in 1864? - Actually, William McKinley served in the Civil War himself; there's a monument to him at Antietam: http://www.nps.gov/anti/historyculture/mnt-mckinley.htm. No, this was Douglas MacArthur, whose father Arthur (yes, he was actually named Arthur MacArthur) was wounded at Franklin.

Wow, Douglas MacArthur's father was in the Civil War? He must've been pretty young (or DM was much older than I thought he was during WWII/Korea).

    1. Oh man, another weak spot in my knowledge bank. I dunno. I'm not Moses? I like the idea of Moses with a mote.

    2. Finally something in my wheelhouse! I am not Miss Marple.

    3. Mr. Bingley? Are you sure you've got the right gentleman? Because unless there's another noteworthy Bingley other than Jane Austen's creation, his eyes were all for Miss Jane Bennett, no matter how much his bitchy sisters hoped for a match with Georgiana Darcy. I suppose he might have looked at Mary Bennett, but not in approbation (although Bingley would never have made this known; he was too kind and gracious to ever insult a young lady, no matter how poorly she sang).

    1. Not Marvin the Paranoid Android (although he never really seemed paranoid to me... just morbidly depressed)

    2. Hmm. For some reason the only person who springs to mind is definitely not right, because he's too obscure (and wrong name, anyway): Michael Palin's grotesque uncle character from Ripping Yarns. It also sounds positively Dickensian but I can't think of any relevant character. So, stumped.

    3. To no surprise at all, stumped!

    1. Well, apparently.... no, I'm not Michael Caine? If his first big role was an upper-crust soldier...
    2. LOL, this is so obviously wrong, but no, I'm not Monet? If there were a lot of water lilies there...

    1. Hmm. I actually just thought of two who might fit here. But I'll say no, I am not Michelle Pfeiffer, who played the head of the Pink Ladies biker chick gang in the execrable (but hilariously fun) musical Grease 2. (She has a so-so singing voice but even back then was amazingly gorgeous--not surprised she rose much higher.)

    2. She wasn't one of the Andrews sisters, was she? No, that wouldn't make sense. Also I don't think there were any M names. Stumped!

    3. No, I am not Edwin Meese?

    1. Yup to Marvin
    2. This was Montgomery Burns from the Simpsons.
    3. Mick Foley, who was one of my earlier Botticelli challenges

I have no idea who this is, and I'm running out of areas to consider. Makes me wonder if the person is a lawyer or something like that.

What do you think EH and I'll hold onto those 2 DQs for the moment.

    Mr. Burns! Ugh, that's embarrassing.

I just realized that my answer to EH's question about Carter is obviously wrong, too. Sigh. Meese was in the '80s, wasn't he. The only Carter Sec. State I remember is Vance, mainly because I seem to recall the Special Report interrupting General Hospital when he was forced out.

Oh riiiight, Muskie! Oy, names from the past... I was so barely politically sentient at the time. It was like my brain was finally coming online after having been booting up for 13 years.

And I'm right ashamed for not getting a G&S reference. I don't think I realized the Major General had a last name!

    1. Heh. Okay, we'll go with my second choice. No, I'm not Morgan Freeman, who of course is beloved by everyone my age for being the funky "Easy Reader" in The Electric Company?

    2. Oh, this one I remember. No, I am not Matthew Brady? (I feel like his name was spelled oddly, though... )

So we have a 50+yr old American Male still alive, not involved in the business, sports, science, journalism.
Is not best known for arts/politics/military, so whoever it is has had some small part to play in it.

Last name start with M...nope still stumped, although I'm sure choie will have picked someone I will heave heard of.
