Dang! I might know all of these except I don't know any of the first "E" names!

    1. Um. No, I am not Halley? But I don't know his first name. Also I don't think it's 86 years...

    2. No, I am not Mr. Hyde? Similarly, this probably shouldn't count since I don't know his first name either.

    3. No, I am not Ernst Blofeld? Taking a stab at his first name.

And now I missed Elrond, too! If I miss an Eowyn question I'm gonna be very pissed off since she's basically my second favorite character. Funny about my screw-up on Olympian. My mind tends to run more to mythology than sports!

    1. No, I am not Eddie Valiant

    2. No, I am not Fast Eddie (Jackie Gleason's character)

    3. Hmm. For some reason this sounds like a French thing to do--"Capitulez dans le nom de dieu et les Senat" or something like that! (I'm certain I got the conjugation of "Capituler" wrong, among every other error here.) But anyway, I have no idea. Could be Napoleonic or even one of the Frenchies who helped out in the Revolutionary war. Or it's King Arthur from Holy Grail! Stumped.

This would be Edward Nigma better known as The Riddler, but EH is an amusing response.

Sorry, I fear choie is wearing a tinfoil hat. - no obvious guesses from me.

Hmm, So British (probably) first created a while ago but has been in movies, humorous some mystery solving..

What about asking if the person has a main enemy or arch nemesis? considering choie's comment about slash fics, or perhaps asking if he has an assistant of some kind.

This is going to be another of those Brit in the book, Yank on film characters isn't it? Multiple movies as well.

Hmm first names: Eric, Ernest, Edward, Ethan, Evan, Eustance... any others you can think of?

Still stumped and got a feeling choie is going to get away with this one.

Any ideas for the last question EH?

You can have another question if you like! Some possible areas that might help you...

    - Narrowing down timeframe of creation
    - Whether he's appeared in anything other than print/movie
    - Whether he's appeared in anything since ____ (some date)
    - Determining job, if any
    - Romantic interest, if any
    - Physical appearance questions
    - Whether he's lost any body parts
    - Whether he excels in any sport/game
    - Whether he's ever been involved in any creative endeavors

Some or all of those could be useful.

Thanks for the offer, but that would be unfair on you for picking such an unknown character.

I'm well and truly stumped this time as well. Will have to have a ponder and who on earth it might be

Heh well I've kinda given you some clues in the possible questions, so enjoy.

And as for unknown... if you don't know this character, I'm gonna need to see your birth certificate for proof you're truly where you say you're from.

(Don't worry, EH... you will know this character just as well, even if you are from Ohio, rather than a green and pleasant land or sceptred isle.)

Gee I wonder why the letter "H" was on my mind?

The only one I know here is that #1 is Horatio, Lord Nelson. Thank you, English Lit! For #2 all that springs to mind is Garp's dad in The World According to Garp, but obviously, that ain't the right answer. And all I know from Lovecraft is Cthulhu, so... basically, take your two DQs!

Ah, there's a luv. You'll always let me start with some easy ones to warm me up. Then, by around DQ 16, you'll trot out the questions like, "Which Blue Peter cat created a voting controversy when it was named?"

No, I fear I am neither Harry Potter, Henry Winkler, or Harrison Ford.

Nelson is the subject of Wordsworth's "The Happy Warrior," which is where the phrase comes from!

Take three more. I think Biden was called a happy warrior, but unless his middle name is Hiram that can't be it.

    1. True to form, no, I don't know this one.

    2. Hmm. Well, I wanted to show off and say George VI, what with the German occupation of the Channel Islands, but you specified England rather than the UK and I don't think the islands are part of England itself. And James II was overthrown by the Dutch at some point, wasn't he? Anyhoo... "H" names are pretty much reduced to Henry or Harold, but I don't think it was one of the Henrys, though if it was I'm guessing Henry II. Certainly wasn't Henry V. But I'm sure the French got in there somewhere, and probably the Spanish made some incursions too. Argh. Eh, I'll go with no, I am not Harold?

    3. I am rather happy to say that no, I am not Hitler.

Probably two, but definitely one, DQ coming your way.

There's no way you're gonna miss this one, gentlemen.

Wow, CIAS, the metal rat thing was a book reference? I was certain it was a 1980s UK cartoon.

    1. As I am certain you anticipated, the identity of the man whose name you are endeavoring to pursue is not shrouded in much mystery, and is, in fact, an individual for whom such interlocutory circumnavigation and outright obfuscation as I am using now is second nature--indeed, one would call him prima inter pares at such verbal gymnastics (or at least, one would assuming one did not go to the LSE or read classics). Not to put too fine a point of it, at the end of the day, I daresay it would not be stating too strongly that though he modesty refers to himself as a mere humble functionary, the truth is he is also a greatly respected and influential, even indomitable presence at the highest levels of power, rising through the Civil Service to the lofty heights of Permanent Secretary and finally Cabinet Secretary with extraordinary responsibilities in the smooth operations of the government of Her Majesty's United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland during the antepenultimate and the penultimate decades of the twentieth century. But alas, no, I am not he--viz., Sir Humphrey Appleby.*

    2. Stumped. I never did read these books/watch the series (I think it was a series, wasn't it? I seem to recall it showing on cable over here.)

    3. I'm assuming you refer to the character rather than the actress who portrayed her, so no, I am not Holly Golightly.

    1. No, I am not Alexander Hamilton. I'm sure you've asked this one before because I'm certain I related my affinity for the guy despite my disliking his politics.

    2. No, I am not Bob Hoskins.

    3. No, I am not Daryl Hannah.

    * This speech, while cobbled together with many pre-existing bits of Applebyspeak, was all my own making. Yes, I could've been a Thatcher-era civil servant, assuming I was a moral vacuum.

    1. Wasn't it Hooper something? I can imagine it on the credits pretty well... Argh, on the tip of my tongue!

    2. No, I am not Harriet the Spy, although I always identified with her (not surprising for many young girls). Wouldn't have pegged you as a fan, though!

    3. This feels like it should be a pilot of some kind, since when I hear "Langley" I think of the airforce base. But I don't know enough air pilots. I dunno, Harry Truman? (I don't think he was a pilot, but hey, he was a war president, so...)

    1. No, I am not Harold Lloyd,

    3. No, I am not Herbert Hoover,

    2. But yes, for my sins, I am Henry Ford, noted car manufacturer, "pacifist" (aka German appeaser), philanthropist, mechanics supplier to Hitler's German and POW slave labor-user, and anti-Semitic propagandist. Quite the renaissance man, am I!

    Very well done, CIAS!
