Ha! I knew you'd get the Ed Norton one. I actually saw The Illusionist yesterday for the first time and of course couldn't help thinking of you, or at least Rangin. Although here he looks very un-Ranginy, since he's quite dark-haired in the picture. Anyhoo, liked him as always. Fun film--not the most unpredictable for anyone who's ever seen a mystery before, but the Victorian pseudo-paranormal setting was perfect for my taste.

    1. is Nick Cannon, apparently divorcing Mariah Carey. Cannon is just one of these stars who shot up outta nowhere, so it seems to this old fogey. He's a host, a DJ, an entrepreneur, sort of an actor, I dunno. 3. Is Nemo, from Pixar's adorable Finding Nemo. (The "net" is literal, what with him being a fish and all.)

    DQs:

    - Is he primarily known for involvement in film?
    - Born before 1950?

    IQs:

    1. Was your death exceedingly unpleasant considering it involved your biggest fear (a sort of Twilight Zone coincidence), has been alternately considered an accident, murder or suicide, and tragically cut you off in the prime of your life?

    2. With a distinctly bizarre method of acting, are you perhaps one of the strangest people once signed up to play the most famous superhero of all?

    3. Were you killed by a clown, who happens to sing the most famous song ever sung by a clown?

#1 was Natalie Wood, whose lifelong fear of water was proven tragically justified when she drowned, apparently having either fallen, jumped or knocked off a yacht in the middle of the night after an argument with her husband, Robert Wagner (also on board: Christopher Walken).

#3 was Nedda from Pagliaccii, the wife of Canio, who murders her after discovering her love for another member of the comedy troupe. Once he learns of Nedda's betrayal, Canio sings one of the most famous arias in opera, , or as it may be more commonly known from its tragic centerpiece, "Ridi, Pagliaccio" ("Laugh, Clown").

    3. Despite being the narrator of one of the most famous and lauded novels of the twentieth century, is it debatable whether you are the protagonist of the story?

Your questions about First Among Equals are cracking me up, EH. It's like a timewarp back to freshman year of college. I don't know anyone who's read Archer's books, and FAE is the reason I've always loved the name "Simon." (Although of the whole Jeffrey Archer oeuvre, I think my favorite is The Prodigal Daughter, the sequel to Kane and Abel.)

First Among Equals is one of my favorite political novels ever; I've read it at least three times. I read just about everything Archer wrote up to 1996 or so, but not much since. Haven't read Kane and Abel or The Prodigal Daughter, but I really liked Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less, A Matter of Honour and his short story collections, A Quiver Full of Arrows and A Twist in the Tale.

After hearing about what a jerk he is (he was once designated "Author We'd Least Like to Escort" by the book tour section of the American Booksellers Assn.), I wasn't too upset about his later fall from grace, including prison.

OMG, great choices with the Brad Dourif / Crispin Glover thing. Unlike Glover, however, I'm pretty sure Dourif is actually a normal human being. At least I've never heard of any incidents. (Can't say the same for Tiger Woods, but in fairness it was his wife who did the golf club attack.)

#1 was Paul Newman, who teamed up w/Robert Redford in The Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. #2 is Jack Nicholson, who went ballistic with road rage after some kind of accident involving his car. And #3 is Nick Carraway from The Great Gatsby.

I'll hold off on DQs to let EH get his turn. Still, to bank some away in case I need them later:

    IQs:

    1. Are the husband in a charming, sophisticated mystery-solving married couple in some fairly lighthearted novels and a movie series, from stories by someone most well-known for perhaps the ultimate hard-edged detective?

    2. Did you once play a rather perfect caricature of the above in a (woefully underappreciated) 1970s comedy?

    3. Are you the author of that comedy, along with a substantial portion of the massive comedy hits on both Broadway and in Hollywood during the late 1960s - early 1980s era?

Yay, thank you! I had a feeling it was Jack and perhaps you didn't know the golf club incident. Both bizarre and yet strangely fitting. The man's a Lakers fan, what can you expect? (Sorry, US-centric sports joke. And to be honest I expect even less of Celtics fans.)

My final three were 1) Nick Charles (whose wife is Nora Charles) from the stories by Dashiell Hammett; the actor lampooning him was 2) David Niven in the film Murder by Death, which was written by 3) Neil Simon.

All righty, the letter is L

    - No, I am not Jean-Luc Picard? There are at least two incidents where he has a double, but only one where both are on the ship at the same time (I think)--when a future version shows up and it's dying/sick/injured or whatever. I'm picturing Pulaski in the episode so it must be from s02.

    - No, I am not Herbert Lom! I love those films.

    - I have literally no idea. I know who he is, one of the Nazi scientists where the U.S. decided to say "sure, you're a Nazi but all is forgiven as long as you work for us." But I can't imagine who'd sing about him except for, like, Mel Brooks.

One DQ or possibly two if I've disgracefully misremembered my ST:TNG. (If you want to stump me on Trek it's safer to stick to TOS, ENT or VOY. TNG and DS9 are right in my wheelhouse!)

    - Well, crapshoot here, but no, I'm not Dr. Leonard McCoy? I can't think of any other "L" names, but it's probably some obscure alien.
    - No idea
    - My knowledge of DC is sadly limited, and unless he received a lot of face time in The Civil War I likely never heard of whoever-it-is this general is. Presumably not Robert E. Lee! So, stumped.

Oh good grief, there is NO excuse for my not getting that Narnia question right. NONE! I was thinking of explorers rather than fiction. Getting a Harry Potter answer right but not a LTWATW answer? I'm ashamed.

I was too young to go see Logan's Run, but I certainly remember the commercials. I can vaguely remember Jenny Agutter running around in some pastel futuristic outfit.

Did you perform a hit song with Peter Gabriel about Eighties British unemployment?
Were you married to your first husband at Malabar Farm, in Ohio?
Were you a fictional amphibian who lived in NYC?

    - Hm. I really should know this. The only duet I remember him doing is with Kate Bush--isn't she the one who also sang Games Without Frontiers? For some reason I want to say Annie Lennox, but she doesn't strike me as having been hugely political. Eh I'll stick with Lennox because I can't think of a male "L" who'd've duetted with the guy.

    - Oh dude, you and your Ohio trivia! Liz Taylor? LOL, that would be so awesome.

    - Do the Ninja Turtles things take place in NYC? I know they're all painter names, so I'll try no, I am not Leonardo the ninja turtle?

So, naturalised American aged over 40, fictional male. Originally in print, but has been in film, doesn't use a gun.
Not really a good guy, has possibly been an anti-hero, is the main character in a movie, probably an action one.
Unlikely to be alive at this point in time.

Hmmm, still unsure what to ask. Howabout.

    19. Character involved in military/secret agent government type work?
In the land of the blind, the one-arm man is king.
