    1. Oh now, see, if you hadn't used Edward Fitzgerald I might not have remembered this one! No, I am not Edmund Fitzgerald.

    2. Er.... No, I am not Emma Thompson? Was she in that? It's a Roald Dahl story but I feel like it was an American movie. Total WAG.

    3. No, I am not Edward Ferrars in the gay porno "Lust in Austen," based on Lost in Austen where all the characters are in the same universe. JUST KIDDING. No, sadly, I am not Elizabeth Bennet.

Uh oh, you both took the same DQ. I guess since CIAS got there first, EH gets to pick another question. (Unless you want to swap, it's up to you.)

Heh, well, obviously I've heard it somewhere because I definitely knew Blofeld and the name sounded right, it was just the first name I wasn't sure of. Really it could've gone either way. After I posted I thought I'd confused him with Ernst Janning, the Burt Lancaster role in Judgement at Nuremberg.

    CIAS IQs:

    1. No, I am not Edward Norton, whom I seem to recall you dislike. But I love him.

    2. No, I am not Eric Bana.

    3. Oh God. I should know this. It's the Doctor Who movie with Peter wossname, Cushing, as the Doctor, right? But I don't remember who would've played the master. I'd've put money on Christopher Lee but obviously that's not it. STUMPED. And embarrassed.

    EH IQs:

    1. STUMPED as I'm sure you knew I would be. I've never even heard of this. What dark reaches of fantasy lore have you dipped into to pull this question out of?

    2. Huh. Okay, this one almost confused me because I immediately leapt to Elizabeth and her rumored lovers, and of the three big contenders none of them had "E" names (unless you count the Earl of Essex, which I doubt you would). And then I got off my Elizabeth kick and remembered Henry Fitzroy, and that led me to Elizabeth Blount. So no, I am not her. But I don't think there's any doubt about it--it's not really a rumor, as far as I know, it's a fact, baby.

    3. STUMPED. Never heard of Fridays with Red, unless it's the porn version of Tuesdays with Morrie.

    DQ:

    1. Real
    2. Male
    3. Last name does not begin with E

    Previous IQs:

Were you Emperor of Melnibone? - Elric, from the Michael Moorcock novels.
Were you long rumored to be a lover of a Tudor monarch? - Yes, this was the Earl of Essex, commonly just called "Essex."
Did you write Fridays with Red? - This was Bob Edwards, the National Public Radio host. "Red" Barber was a famous retired baseball radio announcer whom Edwards regularly interviewed on Fridays, and befriended late in life.

    DQs:

    Died since 1900?

Did you play a cancer researcher in a cameo role at the beginning of an American action/horror movie?

Oh, I definitely remember Red Barber, my pop was a fan. But Essex! That wasn't his real name! I call foul. Not that it matters, at least Elizabeth Blount would've counted. Never heard of Moorcock (I like the sound of his name though.. sorry) but my knowledge of fantasy--which I'm still assuming this is--consists of about seven authors.

    IQs:

    1. I can think of two people here, except that "young" wouldn't necessarily fit one of them. So, no, I am not Emma Roberts (relative being Julia Roberts)?

    2. Hmmm. Well, it's not an "E" name, but no, I am not Diana Rigg, whom you apparently are asking about since you say "your character." (Gotta watch that wording, heh!) Her character name, presumably the right answer, would be the lovely leather-clad Emma Peel, the best companion partner to Mr. Steed (the only REAL Avengers I acknowledge, to heck with the comics!) and whose name allegedly refers to "M. Appeal," or "Male/Man Appeal," a rumor I always wished was false because it's so silly and she's such a kickass awesome character.

    3. Eh, I'll make the most ridiculous guess possible because I have no clue: No, I am not Ethel Barrymore.

    DQs:

    2. Male
    3. Last name does not begin with E
    4. Not living

Correct on Ed Norton and Eric Bana - and yes I still have a mental block when it comes to Ed Norton's acting. One day I'll probably see him in something and think that he's not that bad after all, but it might be a while.

    3. Eric Roberts in the made for TV movie for the 8th Doctor, even more canon than the Cushing films - but about the same quality. The Master didn't appear until the third Doctor.

    Western European

    1. Did you write the story of a boy raised by apes?
    2. Were you a Czech long distance runner who broke multiple records and is considered one of the greatest
    3. Did you not receive presents from Santa Claus when your brother and two sisters both did?

PS: when it comes to Michael Moorcock, there are some excellent books, there are some average books and there are some so excruciatingly painful you wonder how they were committed to print.

Did you see Primal Fear and/or American History X? Two roles diametrically opposed in personality and style, and I think he pulls them off beautifully. But hey I understand just not liking an actor. Robert Mitchum is a prime example for me. I've wanted to punch him in everything I've ever seen him in. And I'm such a nonviolent lass!

Oh gosh I forgot the Paul McGann movie. (That was the one, right?) And I totally should've realized that the DW films w/Cushing were way too early for the Master to show up. Bad classic Who fan!

    IQs:

    1. No, I am not Edgar Rice Borroughs
    2. STUMPED like Oscar Pistorius (okay, boo, I know, but c'mon he's a murderer)
    3. No, I am not awesome Edmund Pevensie!!! And yay for a reference I do know! (Though you didn't have to dumb it down for the insular septic: those presents were from Father Christmas, not Santa Claus! )

    The answer was Emil Zatopek.

Yes, Eric Roberts was the Master from the Paul McGann movie. Careful, Oscar Pistorius is only an alleged murderer, unlike Amanda Knox. Both being horrible murders of which the truth is unlikely to ever come out. And yes, I'll remember next time to be truer to the source material and not dumb it down for you

    Previous IQs:

Are you a young American actress with the same last name as another, more famous actress, your relative? - Yes, Emma Roberts. Without checking, I think Julia is her aunt... maybe a cousin.
Was your character's name a demographic pun? - Yes, M.Appeal, I mean, Emma Peel.
Did you play a cancer researcher in a cameo role at the beginning of an American action/horror movie? - Emma Thompson, in the Will Smith/abandoned NYC/zombie adventure I Am Legend.

If you don't like the phrase "Did not die since 1900," you can simply word it, "Died before 1900."

    CIAS IQs:

Hey don't you have a spare DQ available since you accidentally duplicated EH's DQ?

    1. OMG how do you know Airwolf? Even our crappiest stuff shows over there?! Sigh. I know Ernest Borgnine was in it, but he seems too old to be a co-pilot. Still, other than Jan-Michael Vincent he's the only cast member I know, so I'll go with No, I am not Ernest Borgnine.

    2. No, I am not... Eratosthanes? Am I spelling that right?

For some reason I'm remembering the Odd Couple episode where Felix and Oscar go on Password and when given the secret word "Birds," Felix gives Oscar the clue: "Aristophanes." Which basically makes Oscar want to strangle him because of course Aristophanes is ridiculous. And then when it's Oscar's turn to give the hint, and the word is "Ridiculous," he says in this viciously angry growl: "Aristophanes!" And Felix gets it right! So funny. It's a great show. Sorry, totally went off topic, but I always get Eratosthanes and Aristophanes mixed up.

    3. Now honestly. I would be a sorry excuse for a music-loving Anglophile if I didn't know Sir Edward Elgar and "Land of Hope and Glory!" So no, I'm not him. Funnily enough, last summer I went through a total Elgar binge when it seemed that every time I heard something beautiful on my classical music station it turned out to be Elgar. Of course his Cello Concerto is possibly his finest work, along with "Enigma Variations."

    EH IQs:

(Oh bloody hell, the one time I didn't guess Emma Thompson! I wouldn't have associated her with a horror film.)

    Your IQs:

    1. Um... No I am not Dick Ebersol? I know him better through his connection w/SNL, but I'm pretty sure he's mostly a sports guy

    2. No, I am not Emma Thompson!!! (In Love, Actually; Walking the Dogs; and Me and My Gal on stage)

    3. Oh dear. For some reason this sounds like a dirty joke. STUMPED.

Airwolf...Street Hawk...Blue Thunder...What's not to like. Correct on all three BTW.

EH: Essex is a title not a name, its like calling Obama, "America" instead of using his name.

Well crap, wasn't expecting that. Umm, woot!

Starcrossed romance, never being together, no thanks, I prefer a satisfying reward to the road less travelled.

The other two answers were Enrico Fermi and Etna respectively.

I'll have a think on the next person.

    Way to go, CIAS!

    Previous IQs:

Are you a longtime and prominent American TV sports producer? - Yes, Dick Ebersol.
Have you played a neglected wife, a monarch and a dancer? - I couldn't ask about Emma Thompson twice in the same round; I was thinking of Emily Blunt, in The Jane Austen Book Club, The Young Victoria and The Adjustment Bureau.
Did you joke about your uncle's petting zoo? - Ellen DeGeneres joked, "My uncle had a petting zoo, for people who like animals, and a heavy petting zoo, for people who like animals 'way too much."

I understand, and if there had been a movie called, say, America and Michelle Obama, I'd agree with you. But in that context, the locality in a royal person's or a nobleman's title is used as a proper name. Henry VIII, for instance, sometimes referred to himself simply as "England." King Uther Pendragon refers to the Duke of Cornwall in the movie Excalibur simply as "Cornwall."

I can only guess one of EH's myself, CIAS.

Answers: #1 you should be ashamed of yourself! Miles Edward O'Brien, on TNG and more importantly DS9. #2 is indeed Orpheus, and #3 is Sandra Day O'Connor.

    DQs:

    1. Real?
    2. Female? (I'm tired of having the default be "Male," darn it!)

    New IQs:

    1. Did a handkerchief make you murder your wife? (Okay, there were some other factors...)
    2. Did you play someone so agile that he surfed down a flight of stairs in the middle of a fight?
    3. Did you cause a ruckus just by asking for an extra helping of not-very-enticing breakfast?

Oh you have to watch DS9, it is wonderful. Especially starting with Season 2 and 3.

The answer to #1 is Othello. So, Shakespeare, but it totally could've been Hitchcock, with its story of obsession and conniving.

The Clementa was a typo. I remember Roberto Clemente very well, although mainly from his death, sadly. I link him with Thurman Munson since they died in similar ways.

    3. Oy veh is mir. No, I am not... I dunno, how about Ensign Pulver from Mr. Roberts? Seriously, I don't know--Mr. Roberts is as close to knowledge about the navy as I get. (And actually your double-use of Palver in the RPG always makes me think of Pulver, so I might as well trot him out now.)

    CIAS IQs:

    1. Hm. The only "P" names I can think of as companions are Wendy Padbury and Billie Piper. If it's one of them, I'd assume it's not Piper since she started with the reboot. So maybe I'm not Padbury? But it might be one of the other early companions. Probably STUMPED.

    2. Okay that's gotta be Harley Quinn, but I don't know the Batman universe aside from the obvious. STUMPED.

    3. Damn it, I know these references but I don't know the answers! How frustrating. Some Dad's Army character, but other than knowing the locale thanks to cultural osmosis of British sitcoms, my knowledge of Dad's Army is nil. STUMPED.

I honestly didn't think Robertson was even still acting, so I was thinking something from the 1980s! As for Charles Pierce, he's a regular on Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me, I think since it began.

    2. I can't even imagine what this one refers to. A significant count? What, was she the one who got to recite a nuclear countdown? So very STUMPED.

    3. Hmm. Is this a ref to Thirteen Days? I thought it was generally considered to be pretty accurate, ignoring the usual dramatic liberties to keep things under 3 hours. Unless the author himself was disappointed by something that was changed... No, I am not Philip Zelikow?

You were correct as to all three of my IQs. I thought it was poor Phil Hartman's girlfriend, not wife, who killed him.

I'm not a zombie-movie guy usually, but I liked World War Z. I haven't read the book and thus didn't have any particular expectations.

And if you promise to at least try LOTR sometime this year, all will be well. ;-)

No, unfortunately it was Brynn Hartman, Phil's wife; she then killed herself. I guess it's fortunate she didn't kill the kids too. (She just left them alone in the house with their dead parents.) But with a modicum of sympathy toward her I remember she was strung-out on a bunch of drugs, and maybe she realized what she'd done she couldn't live with herself--it wasn't as if she was going on a killing rampage.

I do have the LOTR books! I bouguht them right after watching the trilogy (you may remember this epic thread), which was nearly five years ago.... oy, what have I been doing all this time instead of reading the darn things?

    IQs

    1. This has to be... No, I am not Pablo Casals?

    2. Oh you know I'm stumped with this one. Almost inevitably unless they went on to some political office, I'm ignorant of military folks. Ah, except now that I've just finishing rewatching the epic The Civil War, I'm ready for any of the major players, from George Meade to scummy Nathan Bedford Forrest!

    3. Heh, I was about to say Peter the Great, but I think he got around being called crazy egotistical by naming it after the actual Saint Peter. So no, I am not Saint Peter. Though wasn't it technically renamed three times? It's gone by St. Petersburg, then translated to Petrograd, then Leningrad, and then back again? Yeesh, the poor mapmakers.

Take your one or possibly two DQs! But don't forget the one you have in reserve too.
