    I am

    Harry Bailey

Younger brother of George in It's A Wonderful Life, a Navy hero and winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor during WWII. The actor, who died in 2000, would've been 97 this year:

Did you defeat Nancy Rader in the recent Congressional election? - David Joyce, Republican of Ohio
Were you a key figure in the early history of CBS? - Rather wasn't involved in the network's early history; he came along in the Sixties. This was David Sarnoff.
Have you played a Boston doctor, a troubled ex-football player and a Founding Father? - Very good guess, but William Daniels never played the second role. This was the very talented David Morse, in St. Elsewhere, Concussion and John Adams (not 1776, in which Daniels of course appeared)

    David x3 redux!

Correct on the first two (although Pat Leahy of Vermont is the seniormost Senate Dem now, and would've become President pro tem again, as he was once before); the third is Dave Kovic (Kevin Kline) in the very funny political satire Dave.

I spent a year on Dukakis's national field staff, serving in New Hampshire, Vermont, New Jersey, Michigan and Ohio, and at the 1988 Democratic Natl. Convention in Atlanta. I met him a couple of times, including when I interviewed for the job.
