I think both of them know where the pawn capture is available, but I think declining it for advancement is the better thing to do. Whoever, makes the first capture is likely to lose more pieces.

Why do you think so? I already read Malacandra's thinking in the other thread.
Because, if either of the two pawns ahead of him were taken, Malacandra could use the King to determine how much support the attacking piece has by just using the King to try and take the offending piece.
Of course, his next move was d5.
