It does look like Cold War-era Soviet construction.

Car guys will recognize the car on the right as a recreation based on Eighties GM architecture. The car on the left, on the other hand, is the Mercedes-Benz 300SL, one of the most beloved vehicles ever built. Not only is it generally regarded as beautiful, it is also--for the day--a technical marvel.

Of course, driven slowly with the top down on a hot, sunny day, either will suffice.

Olive, you missed the obvious comparison here:

    Tribune Tower:

    Sun-Times Building:

The latter one is gone, though...they mercifully tore it down and Donald Trump built a surprisingly attractive building on the site.

Mudd Learning Center (the main campus library) at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio has a similar vibe:

Aye, that is the library of libraries in the US at least.

Here is a fair competitor though, named after Dr. Seuss in fact. Well the Geisel Library that is.

Not only is the Sun-Times building gone, the paper is pretty much gone, too.

    Bridges posted upthread by me:
First one is the Tyne Bridge (in Newcastle).

The other ones I'm not sure of the name, they are in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Originally I was going to put in the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in Dallas, which is another croquet wicket from the same designer (Santiago Calatrava), but then I saw those which are three times as fun.

    Yep.

That is a weird, lattice-like covering that completely wraps around the building, fyi.

^^^ Cabrini Green, as seen in every single documentary about the formative years of rap music, and on at least one album cover I can think of. I imagine it was hideous even when new, and it's a one-jpeg explanation of how the word ghetto made the transition from noun to verb.

Cabrini Green featured in this comic in the 1980s set around the millennium. It was this horrible dystopia made up I assumed for the comic. Then in 2004 I was in Chicago and saw it and a man dead on the street beside it.

Okay, one more watch. The face of the top watch is a recreation of the dash clock from a late Fifties Mercedes-Benz.
