Old chinese curse: May you live in interesting times. Well it doesn't get more interesting than this, as for the first time I can remember a government has said No to the EU and walked away. No second referendums, no further inducements, just a line in the sand.
Of course, it would be the UK, wouldn't it. For Europe, but not part of Europe. It seems that the political manoeuvring has let us isolated and adrift of the great EU project. Then again, it does mean not being tied to the other 26 countries taking part. That assumes all 26 do take part and some of the others decide not to join in the closer fiscal ties.
Looking at it, it appears that it was either give up financial control of London to the EU (France and Germany in reality) or back away and Cameron decided to do the latter.
The meetings did not actually solve any of EU problems and the financial problems still exist.
The question is, is the UK adrift from the liner steaming ahead. Or did we take the only lifeboat and watch the Titanic sail off to its doom.
