Default World AIDS Day - Did you notice?

Today was World AIDS day, to raise awareness of the disease and its impact on the world. After several years it has fallen by the wayside as other stories have taken its place. Its effect should not be underestimated, but the awareness of it is nowhere as striking as it used to be.

When it hit the UK in the 80's, there was a lot of publicity and awareness building to try and make people understand. The common idea in this decade seems to have reverted to, "it's someone else's disease". However, AIDS has been around for 30 years or so and is not going away anytime soon.

As for World Aids day, other than a few notices here and there, I missed it. I'm sure there were a lot of celebrities and politicians across the world doing their bit to get the message out. But if they did, they failed. How should it be tackled to raise awareness?

And have people forgotten about AIDS, or put it aside as no longer being as important to remember and does it no longer have the impact that it used to?

When I got off the subway this morning, there were some young people at a table trying to raise money for World Aids Day. Unfortunately, I was in a first thing in the morning, just survived a crowded train state of mind, and didn't even realize what they were about until I'd passed them.

I wonder if they were at a lot of stations, or just the one near my work, which is pretty much the Gay Town station.

I had some posts on my Facebook News Feed about it. I still see quite a few AIDS/HIV awareness ads and billboards around, but I'm in San Francisco, which I assume is an AIDS awareness hotspot.

Zero awareness from myself and no signs of it in suburban Jersey.

Honestly not anything I've ever paid attention to though.

I didn't see much around town, but I knew it was today and there's always a decent-size fundraiser here in town.

Was unaware of it, alas. Certainly not a disease that's entirely tamed, by any means.

How can any one could forget this day. A renowned celebrity Veronica Hearst was a part of fund raising in Hollywood.

Ok, I have to ask, who is Veronica Hearst?

    She's "well-preserved", apparently.
So now they are just dirt-covered English people in fur pelts with credit cards.

The article indicates Step-Mother. It appears she is 66 now and has had some odd and not successful work done.
