Default Drinking water does not prevent dehydration.

And I thought that the Americans were loony about classifying pizza as a vegetable.

The EU has specifically stated that anyone who labels their bottled water with the fact that drinking water can prevent dehydration will now be faced with a 2 year jail sentence.

Apparently, there is no evidence to prove it.

    The stupidity, it burns.

A meeting of 21 scientists in Parma, Italy, concluded that reduced water content in the body was a symptom of dehydration and not something that drinking water could subsequently control.
    What.

Since we all know it's impossible to actually get anything comprehensible from newspaper articles, I'm going to guess that it's something like this.

Probably there are many ways to become dehydrated, including horrible diseases. If you have one of these horrible diseases, simply drinking water is not going to cure you, nor will drinking the water prevent you from coming down with the disease and becoming dehydrated.

Given this, the EU bureacrats decided that advertising bottled water as a way of preventing dehydration, without any qualifiers, was misleading.

    Overzealous, maybe, but not retarded.

    Once again, just a guess.

But caring for nearly every disease that causes dehydration requires hydration and water is one of the best method for dealing with it.

So how do they propose we deal with dehydration, if not necessarily with water?

Water, you mean, like, from a toilet?

To be persnickety, water alone is a poor rehydrator. You really do need water with electrolytes.

I'd forgotten George said it too! Oh, well - Kramer was first.

Sounds like the people who made that decision were dehdrated at the time, thus impairing their ability to think clearly.
