    Default The Manbag

For decades, women have had handbags, bottomless pits of makeup, tissues, glasses, keys, lotions, mousetraps and in general somewhere that no sane man would ever venture.

Then they invented manbags, for the discerning metrosexual to parade around town, showing his vunerable, feminine side. I feel good about it though, its yet another complete mystery more suited to Ripley's Believe it or not when it comes to the contents.

But it did get me thinking, what would you put in your manbag?

    .380 automatic, flask of rye.

    Cause that's how I roll.

Or would if I was carrying a purse around.

Now now, Rube, you know you would have some moisturizer, some menthos and a can of mace in there, let's be honest.

Gimme a small backpack or even a briefcase over a manbag any day.

Joey had a manbag in an episode of Friends, didn't he, for which he was roundly mocked?

Here's what I think a man should carry in his manpurse (and it's a purse not a bag, if you want the full impact to be felt):

    iPhone
    chapstick
    business cards
    flash drive
    sunglasses
    spare change
    car keys
    hip flask, with good whiskey
    condoms
    GPS device

I had thought that a murse was a very small satchel, but after googling about, it looks like a murse is pretty much anything that men have used to haul papers about in for the last century other than hard-shelled briefcases. Anyway, for me it is:

    Embosser, seals, stamps, pens:

Wallet, cell phone, laptop, keys, camera, usb cables, flash drive and high speed drive, mail, writing paper, pens, folder from client file:

Several folders from client file, procedural text, laptop, paper, pens, cell phone, wallet, keys:

    Lunch bag:

I think that's really all you need.

FYI to the OP, the proper term for this item is a "murse."

I always thought that "murse" was a male nurse and besides ManBag sounds more masculine.

Seconded, although I've only rarely heard it.

I thought that the proper term was scrotum.

I'm going to go and cringe in the corner. These two things should not be mixed.

    For a man, a purse
    Is called a murse.
    A troubling concept
    Of gender reverse.
    Lest that make you
    Want to curse
    I assure you that
    For a woman,
    It's wurse.

I carry two phones, smokes, a Zippo, my wallet and a flask full of bourbon in the original "man bag"

My goddamned pockets. Sunglasses go on the top of the head when not being worn in the appropriate way.

I have a messenger bag from Chrome for work if I need to carry a bunch of papers and stuff, but were I ever to just be strolling around town and finding myself needing a purse I would immediately come to my senses and exclaim "You have too much shit, throw some of this crap away right now."

So, so this. I intentionally scale down my carrying belongings in order to be able to fit them in my pockets, whereas I think people who have purses allow theirs to run wild.

For example, my keychain, which must fit into my pocket, contains four keys: a house key, a car key, an office key, and a churchkey (heh). By comparison, artifex's keychain, which resides in a purse, has fewer keys than mine, yet weighs five pounds and has, among other things, a flashlight and a bottle of hand sanitizer. On the rare occasions that I have to borrow her keychain, I can't put it in my pocket, not because it doesn't fit, but because it pulls my pants down.

Amen to that. My wife's keys look more appropriate for a janitor than a person who has to unlock maybe a total of three things a week.

If you have space, you will fill it, be it pockets or a bag. I simply don't need that much *stuff* with me, ever.

That is about 2 more things than I could fit in my pockets.

One thing I actually like about winter is that I have pockets in my coat...I can carry my wallet, my phone, and my keys with no purse. I may be a girl, but I don't like to carry that much shit in my bag.

ETA: Holy shit is that Cluricaun?!

No. No it sure isn't. Who is this Cluricaun you speak of?
