Default Protecting American Football (Gridiron) Players

A new study has come out showing what a lot of people already suspected, that the head impacts in Gridiron are a problem and causing serious psychological and neurological problems.

The same also goes for other hard hitting sports like rugby and "entertainment" like wrestling.

Although recently the NFL has been introducing extra care for those who suffer problems at the current matches, the issues will now be showing in those who used to play 20-30 years ago when such care and attention was not shown or recognised as being required.

Is there anything that could be done to tone down these sports to try and prevent the amount of head trauma that occurs?

Yeah, I think this is going to get a lot of increased scrutiny over the next few years...what happened to Dave Duerson was a real wakeup call. IMO the NFL needs a lot of reform in terms of trying to figure out ways to decrease these types of long-term injuries, as well as just having better pensions and long-term health care for these guys. Not sure what all the answers are, but it's a real problem.
