    Default Beware German Beansprouts

It appears that one of the worst outbreaks of E.Coli in Europe has been caused a batch of contaminated beansprouts from a farm in Germany. This strain has never been seen before and has already caused 20+ deaths with 300 severely injured and over 2000 ill.

It was originally thought that the cause was Spanish cucumbers and when the news first broke, the market for Spanish salad collapsed. They are now looking for reparations for the slander and impact on their business from Germany.

Russia has already banned all european fruit and vegetables in a bid to contain the problem.

Eesh. This whole situation has been handled badly, hasn't it? It's always things like spinach and bean sprouts which are difficult to remove contaminants from that are a risk for E.coli. Sprouts especially are a danger, so I'm not at all surprised to hear what they traced it back to.

On the Russian front, I can see there being serious concern as E.coli isn't something you want to mess around with, but because the grand majority of fruits and vegetables are perfectly safe after a thorough washing or peeling it seems a bit like curing brain cancer by cutting off your head.
