I wonder if this will hail the coming of the new angry mode Romney, capable of being more than a bland metaphor for grey.

Other than his love for his family, I just don't know that Romney has much authentic emotion. It strikes me that he calculates everything else to the eighth decimal place for campaign purposes.

Yes. I feel as if I'm in a Neal Stephenson book (Interface, most likely) and he will turn out to be an android with a chip in his head wired to the latest internet polls.

It was Dick Gephardt who was first, in 1988, dubbed the "Robocandidate," but Romney has much more of that vibe for me.

Well Romney has won Florida by a goodly margin. Roughly 46% to Newt's 32% and Santorum trails at 13%.

My bold predictions: Now committed to digital print:

About 6 months after the election, Callista dumps Newt.

    Bonus prediction:

About the same time, Todd dumps Sarah.

I figure Palin thinks there's still a glimmer of a chance for her to be VP. Note, for example, her recent
support for the Newtster. After the election's over, Sarah and Newt can finally, largely involuntarily, fade
away and leave the planet in peace.

Final thought: Our next president will be named Newt, Mitt, or Barack.

Bonus bonus prediction. In 2 years time, Sarah and Newt get married and start campaigning for the presidency again.

I think HBO's movie about Palin on the campaign trail in '08 is going to completely torpedo any hope of Palin ever being taken seriously again. Skip the article and just watch the short trailer at the bottom. Its damning. Nixon caught in bed with a dead hooker and the Watergate files damning.

Mitt seems to be doing best in low turnout states.
Among Republican identifiers, turnout was down by 11 percent in Iowa, by 15 percent in New Hampshire and by 16 percent in Florida. It is also down by 10 percent overall through the first four voting states.

The clear exception was South Carolina, where turnout among Republican identifiers rose by 20 percent.

Oh, it'll just be denounced as a Commie pinko MSM hatchet job and won't hurt her a bit.

Will the movie entirely focus on the McCain campaign? The book gave equal attention to Obama's, I've heard.

    Newt's campaign bounces a check.
Newt Gingrich is intent on carrying his Republican presidential campaign all the way to the GOP nominating convention in Tampa, but his money troubles aren't making it easy.

The Gingrich campaign in March submitted the necessary paperwork and the $500 check to get on the ballot for the Utah primary, but the check bounced, the Salt Lake Tribune reported. The state notified the campaign that if the fee isn't paid by April 20, Gingrich won't qualify to get on the ballot.

Utah's June 26 primary is the very last Republican nominating contest this year. If Mitt Romney hasn't wrapped up the nomination before then, he could in Utah, where his Mormon faith has made him very popular.

Even so, the Gingrich campaign told Hotsheet that it sent along a $500 check today. "We are confident the director of elections will secure Newt's place on the ballot," campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond said.

Hasn't he realised its over yet. Heck, Santorum has a better chance of being VP than Gringrich.

Newt bounced a check that should've been for getting him on the ballot... in Utah. Utah! Against Mitt Romney, a Mormon! Sheesh.

Yeah, I'm not sure that we should be reading that as a death knell for his finances so much as a not so subtle way to not waste time on a state he wouldn't win if doves flew out his ass and he could make his head light up.
I don't think so, therefore I'm probably not.

I can understand Ron Paul still running because he can, but surely Gringrich is losing any credibility by continuing on.

Did Gingrich have any credibility left even four months ago?

He's spent a good deal of the tour promoting his books (and apparently a movie? ffs), so the longer he keeps his face out there the more sales he's generating. He'll still be campaigning in December.

Now we're down to the real battle. The economy is going to give Romney a real chance. I hope Obama wins but I fear Romney might pull this off.

Somehow, I feel I should lock this thread. Just in case Newt takes it to heart and decides to make a comeback.
