Default So, who would be a Royal then?

In a mysterious twist of fate, you have an option to:
    • Be born into a Royal Family
    • Marry into a Royal Family
    • Remain just as you are.

If you are born into the Royal Family, you will always have money and a small amount of influence, but will always be in the camera's eye, your every move scrutinised and watched over for anything the newspapers can print. You will have to spend your days supporting charities and meeting people.

If you marry into the Royal Family, you at least get a period of anonymity, before being thrust into the spotlight, followed by being taken care of for the rest of your life, but with the paparazzi still after you, but they don't expect as much. Then again if you leave the Royals, you may, or may not get any money, but are unlikely to be poor.

Or stay as you are, knwoing you are unlikely to ever face the kind of intrusion and schedule the Royal Family do.

and are some Royal Families better for joining than others?

I'd stay as I am. Even when I was a kid I never really got into the whole "princess" thing. Royalty has never been of any particular interest to me. Even when all my peers were swooning over Prince William he just looked like a dorky rich English guy to me, nothing special. Would the money and hobnobbing be nice? Yes, no doubt. None of the rest of it remotely appeals, though.
So now they are just dirt-covered English people in fur pelts with credit cards.

The royal uniforms kind of suck. Plus, I don't like quail. I'm good.

Never having to worry about how I'm going to support myself? Free reign to get as many impractical Liberal Arts degrees as I want? Sure, sign me up.

I'm not very pretty or interesting; the papparazzi would be bored soon enough.

So, I get a substantial amount of money, a moderate amount of influence, and all I have to do is attempt to cause a positive change in the world and not be a douche? Sign me up. The media microscope wouldn't be that bad for me.
So, I'll whisper in the dark, hoping you'll hear me.

I'd stay as I am. I'm proud to be an American and wouldn't want to give up my citizenship. I'm interested in the British monarchy for its history, customs, vestigial political role and ceremonies, but unless I can be King, I'll be glad to remain a commoner.

Based on family history, we're better off not marrying the king, and certainly better off not fucking the king's wife.

So Zuul's idea of royalty is based off the He-Man cartoons.

    It explains a lot.

What's that got to do with anything? I had a sash given to me by the Queen of America.

You'll have to show me where she fits into governing structure provided by the Constitution.

I feel very close to this. Although as an American I am of course opposed to such a political system patriotic grounds, I can see the advantages to having one. Having the President fill both roles as Head of Government and Head of State can be problematic at times, especially in a very polarized political climate like we have today. Personally, though, I would not want to be the monarch. Queen Elizabeth is really an amazing person, but her life kind of seems like hell to me. She sure has lived it with dignity and a sense of duty, but I'm not sure I could do it, and I wouldn't want to be a crappy monarch because I figure if I'm going to get all the privilege, I'd better earn it.
