Obama 2012 - tha campaign begins

Barack Obama, the current POTUS, has already kicked off his campaign to be re-elected for a second term.

He is looking to make a tour of Democrat donors and start fundraising again. He is also looking to restart the grassroots campaign that served him so well in the 2008 election.

The Republicans have not even started looking at choosing their candidate, so why is Obama starting so early. As the incumbent, he must be the favourite, and given the state of the Republicans, it's difficult to see anyone who could beat him.

So, why has he started now, shouldn't he be running the country instead given the current economic climate and more overseas conflicts?

Most Presidents-hell, most people-are capable of multitasking. If he's cruising around to venues in Air Force One, he isn't chilling out doing a crossword puzzle. At least, he probably isn't.

My guess is that he's out to remind people what he's done over the last two years, what he's working on now, and what he'd like to spend the next four years doing. At a time when the Republicans don't have a candidate and are struggling to come up with some plans of their own (see: alternatives to health care, budget) this might make him look better prepared than the alternative.
