Default Miss Marple and the disappearing older actresses

Having just seen that Disney is about to make another Miss Marple story, I was wondering which of the grand dames of the American film industry would get to play the prestigious part. Ok, no-one is going to beat Joan Hickson, but such luminaries as Margeret Rutherford and Angela Lansbury have played the part.

And who do we get.....Jennifer Garner.

Now, seeing as Miss Marple is an OAP, why could we not have someone, you know, perhaps slightly older in the role. Perhaps, even, dare we say it, over 50.

I know that Hollywood really has a problem with older women on screen, but this should be one part that should be sacrosanct. What is it going to be, the early days of Miss Marple, when she was high kicking around the empire?

So, fellow mellos, who do you think should play Miss Marple. Under 50's not accepted.

Wait, Miss Marple is being played by Jennifer Garner? The idea that Miss Marple is not a frumpy older women bothers me. I assumed they would use an English Actress of advancing years when I saw the title. And yes Angela Lansbury came to mind of course as you said Disney.

Maggie Smith would be a cromulent choice in my opinion.

    No. Just, no.

I liked Joan Hickson. I thought she wasn't too bad, though my wife hated her. We both like the Margaret Rutherford movies.
