Default Anyone else watch Darby O'Gill and the Little People this week?

Yes, the 1959 forgotten Disney classic that includes a singing Sean Connery and the enchanting Janet Munro who died far too young.

If you have never seen this and have kids, you should really rent it. If you have seen it you should watch it again. It is a great little Disney movie.

We got home from a St. Patty's Day party and my son wanted to see it again. So we are watching it tonight. This is one of the best Disney live actions there is.

Now I just need to find the Quiet Man.

Not quite the same as the movie. The short story reads a bit boring. More like a journal.

The Quiet Man is kinda boring. It looks great but is overlong. Jim, you should watch The Field directly after the Quiet Man.

I think I saw Darby O'Gill once as a small kid.

I'm pretty sure the banshee freaked me out.

I love the Quiet Man, it is my favorite John Wayne movie. Second Favorite Maureen O'Hara film.

I've never seen The Field, what is it about?

The Field is based on a play by John B. Keane. It was only when I was studying it in college years ago I realised that in a sense it's a retelling of the Quiet Man but darker, less fantastical. Richard Harris as The Bull McCabe in it is a real tour de force. Based around an American man who comes and decides to buy a field that the Bull has been renting for years. Definitely worth a watch, I saw it as a kid but I can't really say whether it is suitable for kids. IE it's not a kids' movie.
