Default Difference between a résumé and a vita?

I'm planning to send such a thing to an English-speaking company and I'm not sure how to title it.

It's a one-page document, listing little more than my employment history and my university education.

Would you prefer to call this a résumé or a vita or are the terms completely synonymous?

That indeed sounds like what we call a resume here in the US. I don't know enough about a vita though to compare. I had the impression though they were the same.

Does the company use either term in its Human Resources materials? If so, I'd go with their preferred term.

Otherwise, I'd probably go with résumé for a North American employer. Curriculum vitae tends to be used for a lengthy, exhastive list of qualifications in an academic setting here. According to wikipedia, the usage in different in the U.K:

I don't think I've ever seen it called a "vita" in any context.

Yeah, mostly medical professionals and Phds use the CV.

I have a CV, it mostly lists things I've done that I think are cool and funny. Not actually useful...okay, I don't have a CV. And my resume is 10 years old. I'm nobody.

You don't need the és in it do you?

They're universally called CVs here, never resumes.

The company has branches in the US, not in the UK or Ireland, so a résumé it'll be. I'll keep the diacritics since Wikipedia is strict with them. Thanks everyone for your answers.
