Default Have you bought anything based off an advertisement?

As the title says, has anyone bought anything based off an advert, whether it be in print or on the TV? Also was it directly from an advert or perhaps within a few days as something you just had to have?

Personally, I don't think I have ever bought something that has been sparked off by an advert. It's usually something I need, instead of something advertised to me.

It was decades between, but for years they advertised a product called the Clap-On that you plug into and outlet and then plug a device you want to control into it. I had a specific need for a device like this and bought one about 6 years ago.

Does a sales flier count as an advert? It sounds like you're talking about a specific product ad and not a flier a store sends out.

No. Adverts don't work on me. As a child, I must have mithered my mam for about a million things I saw on adverts, but the continual disappointment of having a mam who was skint and couldn't afford such fripperies, probably hardened my spirit to them as I grew up. Cheers, mam.

I recently started using Old Spice deodorant thanks to the Old Spice Guy, but that's the only thing I can recall in recent history.

Yes, specifically food. Commercials and print advertisements can be good for sparking a particular food craving. For a lot of other things, advertisements are where the actual awareness of the product/brand even existing came from, though the decision to eventually buy it grew from necessity or interest rather than directly from the ad.

All the time. What the heck, I don't think I'd ever bought a case of Dos Equis before the Most Interesting Man in the World planted it in my mind. (And it's not even like I thought, while watching the commercial, "I'll buy that" -- I was just in the Beer Store, deciding what to buy, and bang -- why not what the MIMitW drinks, when he drinks beer.)

    Advertising works.

My wife was a Russian bride.

Damn ad was full of lies. She completely can't brew her own beer or rebuilt a transmission.
