Here they are, the beers Americans drink most.
If this was all they had at the bar, which would you choose?
Bud Light
Budweiser
Miller Lite
Coors Light
Corona Extra
Natural Light
Heineken
Michelob Ultra
Busch Light
Miller High Life

Surprised to see Natural Light on this list. I never see it at bars, and am pretty sure you can't get it in, or around, Chicago.

I guess I'd go with the High Life.
Oh, I rather enjoy Corona, so I chose that. Heineken is fine as well.

I've never had much in the way of beer. Certainly not enough to really form an opinion on different ones.
Tell you what: whichever one comes out ahead in this poll as of the 25th of this month will be my first legal beer on my birthday.
Choose wisely, my friends.

Heineken, followed by Corona, followed by Miller High Life.
This is a depressing poll.

Top 10 is pretty crappy overall but I can live with Bud.
I guess I'd go with Corona followed by Heineken, but I agree with Señor Loaf. A first legal beer should be something tasty and fun. Fat Tire Amber Ale is really, really good, as is Sunshine Wheat.
So now they are just dirt-covered English people in fur pelts with credit cards.

Bud, of what's on the list, because it's not that objectionable. I'd prefer water, though.
Peeta come up to Rochester for your 21st, and go to Beers of the World. You can get a mix'n match six pack of beers from most any brewery you've ever heard of, and the people there will be glad to offer suggestions. You'll get to taste several great beers in one sitting.
Has anyone here tried Natural Light? Very interested to know what it's like.

I usually drink Miller Genuine Draft. Since it isn't on the list, I'll say Miller High Life.
So let's twist this? What are your preferred brews?
For me it is:
Bass Ale
Saranac Pale Ale
Hacker-Pschorr Octoberfest
Smithwick's
This is tough, but this is close:
Zywiec
Okocim
Goose Island Honker's Ale
Bass Ale
Corona?
I know Corona is often looked down on, but cold, it's mighty refreshing. I'm not too proud to accept it with a lime, either.

Newcastle
Bass
Fat Tire
PBR
Alaskan Amber
Newcastle is a very acceptable brew. Doesn't seem to generally be around this area though in bars and when I am buying 12 packs I pretty much buy Bass
Can you describe these? I never heard of any of them?Originally posted by Oliveloaf
What do they compare to? What type of Beer? Are they local?
My favorite (nationally available) American brews are:
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Anderson Valley Boont ESB
Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale
Victory Storm King Imperial Stout
Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA
My favorite import beers are:
Unibroue La Fin Du Monde
Duvel
Chimay Grande Reserve (blue)
Unibroue Blanche de Chambly
Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout

All three are light and hoppy up front and finish clean.
The Polish brews have the added bonus of a great, snappy aroma.
I cannot easily distinguish between them unless I drink one and then the other immediately after.
I would say that Okcim and Zywiec compare well with Pilsner Urquell, if you are familiar with that.
The Goose Island Honker's Ale is a little "rounder" perhaps, tasting a little maltier overall.

Interesting note: Okcim, Zywiec, and Pilsner Urquell are all brewed within 100 miles of each other.

What Exit and One Stamp, you guys tried a bunch more stuff than I have, it seems.

I forgot a beer that would make my list: BBK
A German Pilsner that is like the Polish brews but a little tangier.

Heineken was my first beer and the only one on the list I'd drink.
Anchor Steam is my always-in-the-fridge beer.
A few others.
Bass Ale
Samuel Smith Pale Ale
Samuel Smith Nut Brown
Duvel
Chimay
Several from Anderson Valley
Rauchbier (if I can find it)
When I go to BevMo, I tend to browse the single bottles.

That is a profoundly disturbing list of options. Corona, with lime, and knock it back quick before I notice how skunky it is. As for the rest, I'd rather have water.
My list of preferred beers is pretty similar to OCS', except that I love ports and stouts (especially oatmeal stout, particularly Breckenridge's) and I don't really like the spicy Trappist ale thing.
And now I'm all depressed about living in a beer wasteland
Bourbon, neat.
Those aren't beers, they're plots to weaken the moral fiber of America and render us helpless in the face of the Red Menace.
Give me Sierra Nevada Pale or give me.....well, not death, because there is no beer in Hell, so maybe a paper cut or something like that.

Good to see you!

I'd say Heineken, since I've actually ordered it when nothing else was available.
Corona is not too objectionable, but it's not really a bar beer.
Oliveloaf - Natty Light is bestmost likely only enjoyed when you're stone drunk and want to ease off it slowly instead of just hitting the water.
If I had to pick one, I would probably ask for a plane ticket back home.
In the land of the blind, the one-arm man is king.
I had to go with Heineken, as I once thought it was good. The rest I've only looked at.
I'm having a Torpedo right now. It's become my beer of choice, and I've got three stores in a 15 minute drive that stocks them. Expensive, but well worth it.
My preferred beers:
Sierra Nevada Torpedo (I can't quite enjoy their Pale Ale anymore. It just tastes bland yet sharp, compared to the Torpedo)
Oppigårds Amarillo Spring (SE)
Dugges High Five (SE) Brewed 5 km from where I live, but costs 70% more than Torpedo at the monopoly.
Titan IPA
Pilsner Urquell (A year ago I would have gone with Gambrinus, but it's just not as bitter as I want them these days)
