Default Firefox URL won't go away...

Y'know that scrolly thing up top, where one enters the URL or hits the arrow to see previously used URLs? How does one remove a URL from this place? I've tried clearing cookies and cache, but this didn't work.

Go to Tools (in the toolbar)
    Then Clear Recent History

It will ask for the time range
Hit the down arrow and click on everything

Look carefully at the list of things that are checked
If you really want all those things deleted, then hit OK
It will ask you if you really want to delete all those things

If you clear all recent history, the url will disappear from the history, but so will all your other recent urls. Be sure you want to do this before proceeding. Also, if you bookmarked the site (although I don't think you did), it will show up in auto fill if you have that on.

Roo, I already did that, but whenever I type the first letter of it in the scrolly thing, it comes up as an option (the dirty URL). Can I erase that somehow?

Ok, that must actually solve the problem.
but then, you can try this

Tools >> Options >> Privacy >> Use custom settings ( from the drop down menu ) >> UNcheck "remember search and form history" >> click OK >> Restart your firefox

You can also remove a single item from that list by using the up/down arrow keys to highlight it, then hitting your 'delete' key. I recall this being a bit different on the Mac, partially because the Mac has no 'delete' key (or because they mistakenly mislabeled the backspace key "delete" or something stupid like that).

ccleaner looks really good - if it's safe and easy to use. I'm new to computers, so simple things are not simple for me.

I'll try that list thing tomorrow. Thanks for the ideas, guys!

OK, I used CCLEANER on it today and... well.... when it says it *cleans* your computer, it's not kidding! And it has lots of specific controls, so you can easily control what you clean up and how much. It's so uncluttered now, and the offending URL is nowhere to be seen. Thank you, Purple One!

You downloaded and installed software... instead of just pressing the DELETE key, like four fried chickens mentioned?

I just tried that 'arrow down + delete' thing. So easy! I must've skimmed over that before.
