Missy: The strange green eyed, white fur cat, companion of Gilraen. It will not talk to Ghân but seems very intelligent and dutiful to Gilraen. She is an excellent night guard and usually invisible now thanks to Deor. She is apparently a descendent of Mirëgol’s ancient cat Warrior.

It is December 3rd of FA64 and the Party is ready to ship out on The Elendil again. This time, for a mission to Raj further south, to help them fight off their School of Necromancy and Cult of Morgoth. Raj is a merchant Kingdom and not evil. It turns out they never actually fought in the War of the Ring. The party expects to meet up with another party led by Meriadoc the Magnificent himself to give aid to the High Lord of Raj. Kralji Slú Carlon born 1FA, son of Numiot Carlon 2989TA , son of Melliot Carlon 2942TA. It appears Meriadoc’s group has approached the Kralji or ruler of Raj and discovered that it was his grandfather Melliot Carlon who in an act of extreme paranoia established the Schools of Wizardry in Raj, including the School of Necromancy. There are now 5 schools in all. 2 in the capital, the eldest and a fairly new school of Dreams and Illusions. A School near the large inland lake and one in the city of Oliphant training. Then in the southern hill of Raj is the large school of Necromancy. They volunteered to act as the bulwark against the Spirit of the Woods. Slú Carlon is a good man and his most trusted aides are a crusty old admiral and a good wizard.

Meriadoc’s party brought evidence that the Necromancers were working against the peace and law of Raj and that one of the chief ministers had hired foreign assassins to kill a rich merchant who was a cousin to the admiral. They negotiated the outlines of a plan to open a peace dialogue with the King. As part of a show of faith, the party volunteered to investigate the Woods. It was felt that with the Senior Druid, an Ent Friend and several Elves including a Bard and Mage of the Light, that the party was well suited to try and find peace for Raj with the mysterious woods. They apparently succeeded and word was sent for the King to come down for both the peace negotiations and to help against the Necromancers who were found to have violated two more longstanding edicts. The Necromancers were working with the Cult of Morgoth, an outlawed and very evil group. They were also apparently violating the Kralji's orders to stay out of the Woods. With the party was a trusted Captain of the Raj Scouts and he and the Mage Telemum were able to verify all of this.

Bjorn the Druid had flown back to King Elessar as an Eagle and the King dispatched fast messengers to Port Hatha to make ready for the Elendil to disembark with Gil-Gandel’s party and the 28 best Sea-Knights. Along with them was of course 160 top heavy infantry. To follow behind will be the main fleet carrying nearly 800 soldiers.

The adventure picks up with The Elendil arriving near the port of Bozisha-Dar, the capital of Raj. The 40 riders dismount 5 miles south of town at a beach and then The Elendil sailed and rowed to the port. The party and Sea-Knight were met by Captain Meriadoc’s party, Admiral Klu Relortin and the Mage Telemum.
    Captain Meriadoc’s party includes:
    1. Mírëgol the eldest, born under the light of the Two Trees where her father was a jewelsmith that served under Aulë directly. She is a powerful Mage that many soon realize rides a Unicorn-like creature like the one Elenwë rode. She has a strange and very powerful cat that is apparently nearly as old as she is and the forefather of the Lothlórien cats like Missy.
    2. Bjorn is the great grandson of Beorn and he is a druid of 10th level. He and Drindoleth know each other well; they grew not far from each other and trained under Radagast together, though Bjorn was ahead of Drindoleth.
    3. Bren is a Ranger Knight of the far north who is also of the Kanotir family. He is youngish but older than Thoroncir.
    4. Lindar is an Elven Bard of Ithilien. One of Legolas’ people. He is a powerful bard and strong fighter. He rides the oddest of steeds, a phantom steed he conjures up each morning. It is a horse of music and magic and very swift.
    5. Felyahin is an Elven Rogue of the far woods of Rhûn. He is a skilled treasure finder and fighter.
    6. Elfstan Fairbairn is of course a familiar face to many in the party. Samwise's Heir, the bearer of Sting. A Treasure Finder though not as skilled as Mulligan.
    7. Hlíf is a Dwarf of Erebor and before that the Iron Hills. Older even than Bitur, he is a veteran of many wars and skirmishes. He was the senior engineer in the most recent campaign in Angmar, assisting the Elves, and was an important engineer in the taking of Goblin Gate. Bitur and Gwaelur both know him and Bitur knows him well.
    8. Haldreng the Paladin is a man of Rohan and follower of Eonwë. He knows Ceol but not Deor.
    9. Nico is a young and accomplished archer. He is a woodman of Greenwood and thus holds the Chief of the Beornings as Lord.
    10. Meriadoc rounds out the party. He is the official representative of King Elessar and King Elfwine. He is a powerful fighter. The tallest of Hobbits and through means of magical elixirs and other circumstances he has the appearance and health of a middle-aged Hobbit though he is 103 years old. He is deadly with Bow and Swords. Well, actually Short Sword and Long Knife. He is also angry; the Necromancers killed his good pony Bilbo. Bilbo had been the very same Pony that carried him that night when your party first met to ride to the rescue of the family against the orcs.

Some background, it is 64 years since the Bearers of the Three Rings left Middle-earth for the Uttermost West and 66 since Sauron and Barad-Dûr fell.

King Elessar & Queen Arwen are in their prime and young Prince Eldarion is in his early training at age 21. There is still a constant struggle to tame the brown lands, Umbar, Harad, Nurn and the North. The court summers in Evedim near the lake and spend 9 months in Minas Tirith. Aragorn has campaign more often than not in the last 64 years, but far less than the prior 67. He and Arwen have had 4 daughters. Silmariën (FA45), Gilraen (FA47), Telperiën (FA51) & Fíriel (FA55)

Legolas has removed a small number of his people to Ithilien to support Prince Faramir in this fair land. He visits the courts of Faramir, Elessar, Éomer and Gimli son of Gloin often. His beautiful sister Elenwë is adventuring and rides a Minaras (Unicorn)

Faramir and Éowyn have two sons: Elboron (FA3) & Caramir (FA7). Both are hardy Warriors. They say that Prince Elboron has the look of his father and Caramir of his mother’s people. Prince Caramir is a great Horseman and loves his visits to his Uncle. Both appear to take strongly after Faramir as they are aging slowly. It has been noted that Éowyn has remained very youthful for all her long years. She could be taken for Éomer’s daughter or even granddaughter rather than his sister. She looks to be in her 50s more than her late 80s. Some wonder if this was a gift of King Elessar’s healing or a reward for slaying the Witch King of Angmar. Faramir is of course still a hale and hardy man. A little over a hundred he too looks to be in his 50s.

Currently Minas Tirith and their allies are fighting a two front war in the South and a Campaign wiping out orc lairs in Ered Lithui and around Nurn. Gondor is expanding and trying to build up a large force of horseman to supplement the Riders of Rohan. They are building a great road to Rhûn to create trade and build an alliance. They also hope to increase trade to Erebor & Dale. There is a project underway at a slower pace to improve travel along the Anduin. It is expected to take decades. Dark tidings arrived out of Rhûn brought by Hodwain the Beorning Bard. There is apparently unrest and some organized evil activity out near the Sea and beyond.

Dol Amroth is still the great Principality of Gondor. It is under the wise care of Prince Elphir (TA2987), son of Prince Imrahil of course. Sister to Lothíriel the Queen of Rohan. His eldest son Alphros (TA3017)is the Commodore of the Gondor Fleet and commands the great and swift flagship the Amroth.

King Éomer has passed away leaving the behind his widow, Queen Lothiriel of Dol Amroth. King Elfwine, his eldest now leads in all things. He is seeking the hand of Silmariën. Elfwine is a tall man of 6' 5" with blond hair and piercing blue eyes. His features show a bit of elvish influence of his mother's side. He speaks with a deep voice and looks to be no more than 30 years old but he is probably 50. He uses a long sword and Gwaelur knows that Elfwine was given a fine chain mail shirt as a gift from Gimli. The Chief Mearas likes the new King, his best son is Prince Elfwine's partner. They think he is a very good human. Prince Éomund is the next in line currently. He is a few years younger than Elfwine and also still single. He is leading a large force of Riders of Rohan on behalf of his brother the King to aid King Elessar in Harad.

In 61 Samwise Gamgee left Middle-earth via Mithlond. Merry and Pippin got their affairs in order and headed south to live in Gondor. Mulligan Took was among their escort. Samwise’s eldest Grandson Elfstan Fairbairn joined the group after visiting Minas Tirith. Faramir Took son of Pippin is the Thain and the Shire’s greatest Warrior since Meriadoc the Magnificent. Mulligan’s Brother Ponto Took is an excellent archer and a good treasure finder.

Arnor is repopulating as is the Anduin Valley. The Shire’s population is growing and their produce is helping to feed the North and even the South. They have steady wains heading to and from the Dwarves of Ered Luin. They are even supplying produce and pipe weed to the Grey Havens in exchange for salted & smoked fish.

Elladan and Elrohir of course remain the Masters of Rivendell and assist in the running of Arnor. They in no way have finished with hunting Orcs. Indeed, they have driven the Goblins far underground with their constant attacks on Goblin Gate and often roam north against Angmar itself. Elladan, Elrohir and Glorfindel seem tireless these days in hunting the scattered remains of these ancient enemies to the North. They often leave the care of Rivendell to the wise Celeborn. He did leave a thriving Sindarin kingdom in Southern Greenwood from where Gil-Gandel most recently hailed.

Thorin III Stonehelm rules the Durin Folk (Khazad). He rules from Erebor of course. His lords include Gimli in Aglarond, Lord Gíon of the Iron Hill and some lesser lords in the Blue Mountains and Fornost. The Dwarves are again thinking of Khazad-dûm. Dori and Bofur are still alive, but quite venerable and rich. Bofur is acting as the ambassador to Rivendell and Arnor as needed.

A bridge at Tharbad has been built and the great bridge is nearly rebuilt. Tharbad is already a thriving and growing town under the command of Lord Mayor Ianthír (Bridge Lord). He is Ranger of the North and the son of Aragorn's most loyal friend Halbarad. The population is mostly just men of Eriador. There are small Dwarven and Hobbit communities.

The Great South road is rebuilt and maintained from Fornost to Minas Tirith. All the additional trade has brought much prosperity to Bree and the town and the Prancing Pony have both expanded. Fornost is still small, but growing. Most of the remaining Northern Dúnedain have moved near Fornost.

For year 63 FA review & review of The Elendil.

December 12th: The Elendil arrives near Bozisha-Dar, capital of Raj.

Bozisha-Dar is a good size walled city and quite ancient looking. The mouth of the river runs deep here and the city sits out on a small peninsula. It appears that the waters have shifted and the people of Bozisha-Dar have held their ground by massive stone bulwarks.

The port is busy with ships. The greatest of the ships are barely more than half the size of The Elendil. The Elendil will be tying up at the docks and they will off load the rest of the goods there.

Mirëgol warns the spellcasters, “Cast not on any of the locals without permission, not even a Know Alignment. It is considered very impolite and greatly frowned upon. The Druid, Bjorn caused some undo anxiety when we arrived at the first town to the east. They have many detections up and about this city. They are very fearful of the unseen dating back to when the Woods assaulted the city with impunity.” She also advises that carrying Tongues is an excellent idea. She will be happy to talk of spells if the other mages desire to.

The short five mile ride into the city shows small thriving villages, industrious looking smithies are seen on the way. As the party is escorted into the bustling city there is a steady flow of wagons and carts entering and leaving. The city is thriving and fairly clean looking. Several tall towers stand above the streets. Gil-Gandel would think at least some of the towers and outer walls are Númenórean in construction. Gilraen would find it reminiscent of her home, another city of ancient stone.

Gil-Gandel, Rorimac and Sala can all translate for the party and Gilraen has picked up a fair bit of the language. Of course the mages might wish to cast tongues. Lindar will assist as needed. He is the Elven Bard that works with Meriadoc. The city has goods of all sorts available and even a shop called “Relics and Oddities” that specializes in rare and magical items. There are of course several armories and weapon shops. There are 3 apothecaries and one alchemist shop. There are of course the two schools of Wizardry; the original school and the much newer Illusionist school where Meriadoc’s party has been staying. They have room for the 40 riders here.

Remember in addition to the money you have accumulated, you each have 4000 in gold you are encouraged to spend here to build good will.

(I need the spell lists, plan to be riding out as a large party to meet the King’s representatives. Be prepared for Necromancers and evil Clerics.)

Mulligan is glad that the sea journey is both fast and steady. Thinking forward she knows that even though she should spend the money here, she still has an outstanding debt to Elfstan to pay off. She also reminds her self to keep the invisibility ring off her fingers unless absolutely necessary. Given that it is a minor ring or power and may be thought to have a touch of evil on it, using it here would not be sensible.

Thoroncir would have preferred a longer sea journey aboard the Elendil, but of course is glad to have arrived safely with his friends and companions. He looks about the city with great interest, and will stay near Gilraen, alert to any threats against her.

Upon meeting with Meriadoc's party, Ceol will clasp hands with Haldreng. "Well met, my brother in arms. It is good to see friendly faces in a foreign land, but an even greater gift to see such a familiar one. It has been too long."

Ithilneth happily talks with Miregol, and in the Noldorin tongue if others are not nearby. "It is heartening to meet mine elder in this late age, and one who has seen the Trees."

She is interested to explore the city, but is somewhat at a loss for what to do about the gold she has been given to spend.

(Edit: Ithilneth will memorize Comprehend Languages, Feather Fall, Light, Protection from Evil; Invisibility, Greater Light; Protection from Evil 10-ft Radius.)

    Spells for the day:
1: Identify, Mending, Message, Comprehend Languages
    2: {Wizard Lock or Web}, Invisibility, Levitate
    3: Detect Lies*, Tongues, {Suggestion or Fireball}
    4: Shapeshift, Plant Growth

Before or during the journey southward, Deor will make a point of preparing for the city by buying or making a nice leather purse that can be carried underneath his robes, close to his body, and shutting it with a Wizard Lock, so as to frustrate thieves in the south. He'll also try casting Pest Resistance on the Elendil itself to keep away rats, barnacles, and any insect pests that the Quartermaster can give him an example of. He'll also place a Wizard Lock on his cabin door, making a point of allowing it to let his cabinmates pass. That way, he can be sure that things left in the cabin are safe, even if the thieves around here are better than suspected.

Upon arriving, Deor will begin by flying over the city as a hawk**- he'll make a special point of observing the merchants' quarter and the other mercantile districts. He'll check to see if there's anything that looks especially appealing, both in terms of trade goods, magic items, and spells. He'll likewise cast a wary glance at the hill with so many grand buildings on it- is this where the rogue schools of magic reside?

After landing safely on the Elendil, Deor will look for a small group who'd like to venture out into the city, at least into the nearby Merchant's Quarter to see what's around. He's got Tongues to offer, so the group can have an interpreter. He'd like to start looking at trade goods- what does this city have in abundance? It's a trade port- what does it trade to the south, and what does it receive from the south in return? What comes in from the East? And most especially, what would be available here that might bring high prices in the north? This is really the beginning of large-scale open trade between these two nations; there may be a chance to get in on the ground floor here and take something north that's extremely valuable before the market can adjust. Deor's not greedy, but he's got a major project in the near future with his staff to be built.

Deor would also like to look at small magic items that could be adapted as set pieces for his staff, when it comes to that. Rings, amulets, and magical tokens are just the ticket for this; he's willing to consider anything within reason.

*Does casting Detect Lies count as a spell cast on oneself, which doesn't violate the spellcasting taboo, or as a spell cast on a subject, which does? If the latter, Deor will prepare Fireball instead.

**I assume that red-tails are as ubiquitous in Middle-Earth as they are in real life. If not, well, he'll just make a point of staying high enough to read as little more than a silhouette. Also, how long does Shapeshift last?

Upon meeting Hlíf, a friendly and welcoming smile appears on Bitur's face.

"Ah, good to see you old friend. It's been too long. I look forward to adventuring with you and the rest of your party. (Not to mention that I will no longer be the oldest non-elf around. *wink*)"

Bitur will also accompany Deor into town for buying supplies. He makes sure that his money is well secured in an interior pocket of his pack, and will keep an eye out for any who might try to relieve him of it. Should someone get too close who seems to be of such inclination, a suggestive and not so subtle fingering of his axe handle will hopefully do the trick.

Greetings to all, but especially Lindar and my fellow Elves - I have known very few as old as Mírëgol and fewer still that saw the Light of the Trees! - and of course to the Brandybuck, who is looking rather more hale and hearty than when last I saw him. I must take a moment aside to thank him for suggesting my visit to Bombadil, which was an experience never to be forgotten and greatly to my good.

5 x 1st: Detect Magic, Entangle, Faerie Fire, Hypnotism, Stunning Discord
3 x 2nd: Hypnotic Melody, Mirror Image, Song Cycle

Valuables tucked away out of harm's way, using my tyro's grasp of pocket-picking as a guide to avoiding the more common mistakes, and also trying to look a little more other-worldly than usual which can encourage Men to keep a little further away. But temper this with cheerful singing of such local songs as I have picked up, as the effect I am after is to appear like someone to be slightly in awe of but not terrifying.

Make a tour of the various magic trinket shops and see what's what, although I'm very pleased with what I'm carrying around as it is.

Drindoleth will ensure his pouch of preservation is tucked under his clothing away from sight, as well as the other valuables he carries. He prepares his spells for the day as follows:

1: Entangle, Purify Water, Predict Weather, Faerie Fire, Detect Magic, Speak With Animals
2: Barkskin, Charm Person/Mammal, Cure Light Wounds, Produce Flame, Fire Trap, Warp Wood
3: Call Lightning, Plant Growth, Neutralize Poison, Stone Shape
4: Cure Serious Wounds, Dispel Magic

He will then accompany Deor and Bitur and any others coming to the marketplace. As before, he'll look into the herbs to see if there are any exotic varieties available for purchase. He's particularly interested in stocking up on his herbs for healing.

Mulligan looks round at the rest of the party, who are obviously taking great pains to hide all their valuables and adjusts a purse neatly on the outside of her garb. The fact it is filled with pebbles, is not obvious. "Don't worry to much all, hopefully most poeple will be watching the naive young boy, rather than the experienced travellers. I think between myself and Gil-Gandel, we can hopefully spot them coming."

She puts on her most wide-eyed expression of wonder, rosy (see well-pinched) cheeks glowing brightly. Whatever weapons you thought she may be have been carrying have disappeared. Instead, she is carrying some parchment and a quill and seems to be making a few notes on everything.

"However, I would suggest sticking close together to begin with. We will attract attention and I want to try and spot the obvious watchers."

Bjorn requests of Drindoleth that he carry plant growth to help him plant a protective screen around the camp each night and provide food and fodder. He is pleased to discover Drindoleth already planned to carry the spell.

The stores are largely all in the same quarter and most stores have animals in them. Dogs, cats and parrots are the most common. The parrots could act as interpreters for Drindoleth oddly enough. There are plenty to act as interpreters in the stores any way and of course tongues could be cast.

Mirëgol is please to converse in her native language. She suggests to Deor and Ithilneth that, “This is a good place to pick up spell aides and material components and items to help with your wizardly item of power. My bow acts as my Wizard’s Staff. I have lived my life very isolated from this human world until recently. I rarely spoke to human or Dwarf before recently. I had never been further from the Grey Havens then Imladris. I have seen more in the past year or so than all my life before. I never participated in any momentous happenings and was a survivor of the grinding ice and a refugee twice over. I finally found refuge with Master Cirdan. I visited Hollin but once when Lady Galadriel was still there. Though I did know her daughter Celebrían better from some time I spent in Imladris. The Trees, ah the Trees, I still see them often when I rest. Their warmth and brilliance was something to behold. Tirion was too sad a place after their destruction. I think this why so many of us foolishly followed Fëanor in his madness. I finally became comfortable in the safety of the Havens and practiced my arts. A bit of what the Hobbits call magic, my music and my gemcraft.”

Elfstan is pleased to see his old friend Mulligan, “Angelica Took, it is wonderful to see you. I got restless again after my business at home was resolved.” He exchanges news from home with his old friend.

Meriadoc is quite pleased to see his niece and his youngest son. He is more pleased by the report of their deeds as they catch up on news. He offers Rorimac a small boon, “I have a large collection of excellent Dwarven arrows, and you look like you could use a few.” He hands him 6 +4 Dwarven arrows. “Be careful to recover them, they are near to be unbreakable”. He turns to Angela, “I have nothing so useful for you, but perhaps you accept this excellent potion, it will work but once but heals a great amount of damage and cures poison at the same time.” Potion does 6d8+6 healing and acts like Sweet Water.

Gilraen look forward to touring the stores and hopes to find something to aid her in healing.

Haldreng is a quiet man as Ceol recalls. He nods and replies, “Well met. Leofwin looks well as do you.”

Hlíf greets his fellow Dwarves enthusiastically. “Aye, it is good to see familiar faces. No offense to these Elves and Humans and Hobbits but there is nothing like another Dwarf for real conversation.” From there it is as always with Hlíf shop talk. He inquires into their smithing and quality of their weapons.

Captain Langdon insists that Deor remove the Wizard Lock. This cabin cannot be put out of use this way and I don’t think Binton can dispel it. We will guard your cabin, but all your goods should be off the ship when you depart anyway. He does appreciate the Pest Resistance on the Elendil and his Chief Bosun is happy to put Deor to work. The rat removal is a help, the ship worms and barnacles are a huge boon.

When Deor goes to fly over Bozisha-Dar he feels he is being scried when he flies low enough to view the good of the merchant district. The city is very paranoid about magical things flying overhead. The city has two of the Wizard schools. Up on the bluff near the Great Hall and tower is the Visi Hall, this is the school of Illusionist established by the current ruler; Kralji Slú Carlon. The other school is the oldest in Raj and is called the Mansion of the Moon. It is in the lower very wealthy section that houses nobles, merchants and guild houses. Both are at least mostly loyal to the Kralji in theory.

The entire party is riding into the city along with most of Captain Meriadoc Party. Deor should cast the Tongues spell before entering the city. The town deals in crafted items, potions, spices, foods, textiles and pigments. It is also big on liquor and wines. Deor suspects the spices and potions would have the greatest room for profit versus size and weight. There are a large variety of minor magical items and exotic herbs and animal parts. Things that might prove useful in making the staff like special bowls, Oliphant tusks, string made from the fibers of a rare and magical sea flax, etc.

Casting Detect Lies in town would be a violation without permission and Ceol and Gilraen can assist with this. Perhaps Ceol should have a Tongues cast on him. It is especially hard to lie to a Paladin of Rohan as you know.

Shapeshift last for 20 minutes per level and allows shifting between the known shapes and human form in that time. It works like a reduced version of Polymorph Self. It does not really compare directly to the Druid’s ability but is useful.

Lindar would be most happy to exchange with Gil-Gandel, tales and lore discovered in the south but will beg out of it for now as he is going to be helping with a crew exchange for the Elendil.

Meriadoc is please to hear his old friend Tom was of help to Gil-Gandel. "Tom is the most wonderful being this side of old Gandalf himself that I have met. I grew to know him much better in the years after the War."

There are several shops that deal in herbs for healing and other purposes. There is also some foodstuff new to the party. Perhaps the most impressive is a stimulating drink called locally kahve. This unassuming item could be what Deor was actually looking for as far as potential profit goes. There are at least 3 plants that Drindoleth would be able to grow using his magic that would be of interest. they would help in future healing works. He could pick up enough seed stock for his uses for only 100 gold. Gilraen would happily go in haves on the seeds.

The large and fairly well organize party attracts much attention and only a little of the unwanted sort. None seem brave enough to attempt to rob the members and a few flim-flam men are quickly discouraged. Mulligan, Gil-Gandel and Freyja note at least a dozen different persons that seem to be scoping out the party with a more practiced eye than mere curiosity would demonstrate.

Items of specific interest that might fall within reach of the party:

    Potions (T = Turn = 10 minutes; R =round = 1 minutes; Hr = Hour)
    800gp Superheroism: Lasts 5-20T
    500gp Herosim: Lasts 5-20T
400gp Speed: Does not work for Elves, ages drinker a full year, last 5-20T
500gp Better Speed: Only last D4+6 rounds but no aging affect. Will need extra food and rest and causes stomach pain. Roll vs. System Shock or vomit at end. Never more than 1 per day.
    500gp: Fire Resistance 1 hour + 2d6T
8000gp: Permanent Strength Increase (not to exceed racial max) but imbiber must spend next 7 days in heavy workout regimen.
    250gp: Climbing lasts D4+2T
    1200gp: Strength 20 for 1Hr+2d6T
    850gp: Extra-Healing cures 3d8+3 damage
500gp: Levitation special. Last 30r and can featherfall at will during duration.
    300gp Healing 2d4+2
    900gp Philter of Love
1500gp Polymorph self into an Albatross. Duration 1Day +2-12 hrs. (Would allow someone with Shape Shift to learn this form though. If possible.)
225gp: Water Breathing Last D4+4 Hours.

3500 gp: Small Glass Rod 18” long, comes in protective sheath. Doubles detection ranges (in line of sight). Also gives a +10% for Identify and eliminates Constitution drain and need for fish. Finally gives a +1 damage per level for Shocking Grasp and Lightning Bolt.

22,000 gp: Wand of Utility: Charged with Mending Spell, will cast Mending, Message, Detect Magic, Detect Evil 2ch, Detect Invisible 2ch, Knock 2ch, Wizard Lock 2ch. Each charge requires 3 copper and 5 silver and 3 iron coin equivalent worth of metal. (.55lbs of metal)

6000 gp: Jerkins that give AC 8/J. Can absolutely sleep in, no movement restrictions. Looks like leather and wears like silk. It has an additional dweomer of vermin proof for wearer.

1000gp: Mug of water. Once per day in most arid areas condenses 3 cups of pure cold water out of air. In high humidity will do it once per turn.

5000gp: Helm give +2 to AC
2500gp: Helm give +1 to AC
8000gp: Helm give +3 to AC

7500gp: Banded Armor of Free Movement +1. No encumbrance and can sleep in it.
7000gp: Variety of swords at +3
4000gp: Variety of swords at +2
    500gp: +3 Arrow
    300gp: +2 Arrow
    100gp: +1 Arrow
    7500gp: +2 Crossbow of Speed

7000gp: Prism that gives +1 level for casting illusionist type spells.

There are of course scrolls and many items to enhance specific Mage or Illusionist spells that are reasonably priced.

Clearly I cannot list everything, if you have something in mind ask around.
There are usually more than one of these items, especially the potions.

(Are there multiples of some of the items on the shop inventory list? The "permanent strength" potion is listed twice, which makes me suspect that each line is a unique item. I'm specifically curious about the magic arrows, of which it seems like there may be only one of each quality?)

Ceol is interested in the Superheroism, Heroism, and Better Speed potions, as well as the magical helms and the arrows (though, if there are a limited number of arrows, he'll defer on those to the primary archers.

After Elfstan addresses Mulligan, Ceol turns to the halfling lass, a smile on his face. "Angelica?? I had no idea."

Thoroncir warmly greets the Brandybuck and the members of his party, especially Elfstan. He is especially interested in getting to know Bren, and when an opportunity arises will tell him (as Benelhir so recently heard) about our group's visit to the fine old house of Vanimelde, including the burial vault and treasure trove below.

The Sea-knight captain will accompany Gilraen as she tours the shops. Perhaps we might split into two or even three groups, so that we're not quite as imposing and/or scary? I suppose in splitting up we might even intermix Meriadoc's and Gil-Gandel's bands so as to get to know each other better. We want to seem friendly here among the citizenry, after all.

Nice maps, BTW, What Exit? Did you make them?

Captain Meriadoc and a Captain Mun of the Raj Army strongly advise the party sticks together. Your groups are being escorted around by trusted Raj military. It is not thieves they fear but those others mentioned earlier.

Also the post was written above with the assumption that the parties moved as a large group.

If we're being scoped, consider the scopers scoped out in their turn. I would teach such people a lesson in the value of discretion were we in the greenwood, but I shall make what use I can of shaded places and dark doorways to drop out of view as I turn corners and so on, perhaps looking as though I were unused to the strength of the Sun this far south. As far as possible I want to appear neither to be deliberately avoiding observation nor actively watching out, but I want to note as much detail as I can.

(Edit: but I will avoid getting left too far behind the main party. I have long legs and can make up ground quickly. )

One of those Helms might come in handy, if they're compatible with the various items I have that work only with no armour. Otherwise I'll have another think.

Deor will certainly remove the Wizard Lock from his berth in the Elendil, with apologies, and will make sure to keep up all the useful enchantments. He was under the impression that he'd be lodging in the Elendil while in Bozisha-Dar-- where will the party be lodging? Deor will, of course, cast Tongues upon himself before he enters the city. He'll take special care to make sure that his valuables are well taken care of during the transition through the city.

Deor is also interested in seeds, actually; both for plants that support healing and for plants that are known to or might have alchemical uses, especially if there's evidence that the plants are hardy enough to be grown carefully in Rohan, even if they'd have to be taken indoors during the winter. He's got at least 75 gold to toss into the pot for that, and points out that he and the Druids have Plant Growth, which could be used to rapidly mature plants and increase our store of seed without the necessity of buying more than a very small quantity.

Deor's quite interested in potions that induce Shapechanging, though the Albatross isn't a form that particularly excites him, since it doesn't offer much more than his hawk form. He'll ask that vendor if there are other options, and may even be willing to commission. A potion allowing a dolphin's form, or a wolf's, would be of interest, if such a thing can be found. Likewise, magic scrolls are of particular interest- Deor would love to find a scroll of Protection from Evil (or Protection from Evil 10' Radius), Rope Trick, or any Monster Summoning spell.

In terms of magical items for the construction of a wizard's staff, Deor will look for four sorts of items: first, items of extreme hardness and durability for the base of the staff, the shod part that strikes the ground. This should be something magical, able to be shaped by a careful craftsman (or a carefully applied spell), and significant in profile- possibly mithril or oliphaunt tusk. Actually, a small quantity of mithril from Gwaulur wouldn't go amiss in this instance, so he will inquire there. Second, Deor will look for rope-like or cord-like items that can be wound around the staff. These might be vegetable in nature, possibly coming from a powerfully magical vine, fabric, or other plant-like origin. The fiber from a sea-flax sounds promising. Third, Deor will look for a handpiece- something bound around the staff where he holds it naturally. Something famously smooth and durable, possibly oliphaunt tusk or an exotic southern wood. It's conceivable that a special fabric, maybe a silk, would work too. Fourth and finally, Deor will look for set pieces for the top piece of his staff. Magical gems, woods, minerals, animal bones, or any other small pieces that can be set in a staff would be possibilities.

In general, Deor is interested in other items that improve his skill with fire (it's his specialty, after all, and it can't be an accident that items that enhance fire spells keep falling his way), items that enhance his other spellcasting abilities, items that protect him from the influence of evil, and items that can enhance the staff's ability to channel and store magical energies.

For trade goods, Deor is interested in this "kahve"- is it simply alcoholic, or are there other intoxicants? In what qualities is it sold? And can he reasonably buy a sizeable quantity and expect to get it safely back aboard the Elendil without unreasonably overburdening the Quartermaster? Or is it, in the end, too bulky to take more than a few bottles back? He'll look at both how to transport it back and how to create it once he's back, as an alternative. Beyond that, he'll look carefully at the spices and pigments as a possibility.

On investigation, it seems the the helms are no good to me unless I rethink my entire no-armour policy and dispose of some cool items, but those silky jerkins seem to be no more encumbering than a really good shirt. Also they look natty and just the thing to wear while performing in company.

"Using plant growth to gain more seeds is an excellent idea, Deor," Drindoleth tells him, pleased with the suggestion. He'll go in on halves with Gilraen for the seed stock, though when he has the chance he intends to see about expanding his store. Any herbs he thinks will be of use or that are exotic will be purchased as well, to use or learn about later at his leisure.

Through his animal interpreters, he'll attempt to learn what he can about the herbs and seeds from the shopkeepers to add to his own lore. Anything unusual to the plant life in the region will be of interest to him, whether it's something he can purchase or simply hear about.

After Mulligan finishes catching up with Elfstan, she smiles back at Ceol. "That is the general point, Angelica is for more formal occasions."

Looking round the shops, Mulligan is interested in the water breathing potion or a Fly potion as well if they have any. Other than that she is also interested in any herbs and spices that could be used in cooking and perhaps give food new flavour.

Rorimac isn't sure what to look for in terms of magical items, there are so many to choose from. But if there are any maps of the area, normal or magical that can be kept and reused, they might pique his interest. He will go for another potion of Super Heroism and a possibly new helmet if it will not affect his ranger abilities. Then again, something that could enhance his sight in the dark to a degree better than current would be useful as well for tracking at night. So many items, so little gold.

Ithilneth appreciates the Mug of Water. "Who knew Men could have such craftmanship?" she remarks in her native Nandorin. She will try to haggle the price lower, as seems to be custom among Men, but will not press it much. She'd rather leave a good impression and some excess gold, than get the best deal possible.

Noticing Rorimac carefully considering his purchases, she discreetly whispers (in Nandorin, again), "A young Hobbit can better use of this than an old Elf." And offers him a small purse with 2000 gold.

Quietly back to Ithilneth. "Are you sure there is nothing here that catches your eye or would be of use. If you honestly cannot find anything, then we are duty bound to spend it somehow."

Rorimac looks up and then accepts the pouch. "My thanks Ithilneth, I'm sure I can put it to good use."

Ceol returns Mulligan's smile. "And, clearly, we have not had a formal occasion until now."

Using both the "goodwill" gold and some of his own treasure, Ceol will seek to purchase the following:
    - 2 Superheroism potions
    - 1 Better Speed potion
    - 1 Extra-Healing potion (always good to have some backup)
    - A +1 AC helm

If he has had a Tongues placed on him (for the "lie detector" system mentioned by What Exit?), then Ceol will do the shopping directly -- otherwise, he'll have to work through one of our interpreters. In either event, much as Ithilneth noted, he'll haggle a little, but not enough to lead to any ill-will.

The party will be put up at the Illusionist school overnight. It is called Visi Hall. They will be leaving in the morning. The Elendil pull back out of port rather than risk staying tied up overnight. Going to the beach avoided the key problem of offloading the horses at dock. By going to a beach area the main ramp could be used. The day at the dock allows for some flag waving diplomacy and good will and a chance to take on supplies and spread some gold and silver around Bozisha-Dar. The party is told by Captain Langdon that the Elendil will stay in the area and await the arrival of the main fleet.

Ceol and others are able to get most of the potions at a single source and negotiate a volume discount and still leave the proprietor happy.
Ceol gets the 4 potions for 2600 but the 2500 for the helm was after haggling. So he spent 5100 gold in all; leaving him 1400 gold.

Mirëgol did cast Tongues on him for the lie detection and allowing him to shop directly.

Ithilneth is able to Mug of Water but no discount. This leaves her 1000 gold though that she should try to spend on scrolls or potions or arrows. Arrows would probably be a good idea.

When Thoroncir greets the Meriadoc and Elfstan they warmly greet him. Elfstan is happy to see the brave knight is doing well. Meriadoc praises the young Sea-Knight for his accomplishments and growth as a warrior for the King. “I am honored you have joined the ranks of Captains. I see and hear you and Gilraen are in love. I wish you kids luck with this but remind you not to forget who she is. She might call me uncle but her station is so much higher than you or I it might not be possible for her to marry you. On the other hand, Strider knows well what it is like to aspire to a fair lady beyond his station.” He smiles and laughs.

Bren is very much a quiet man. No older than you from what you can see but from others you discover he has fought in both Angmar from a young age, the plains of Gundalok and along the coasts as a special raider for the King. He is not discourteous but he is tight with his words.

Gilraen tours the shops and is considering a large purchase of healing potions to go with the Herbs. She spends 50 on the herbs with Drindoleth and purchases 6 extra heal and 6 heals for 6300 gold. She says, “I still carry about 6000 in gems and jewels I could loan to others if they need it.”

Drindoleth picks up some useful information on the local herbs but learns there is less of use in this semi-arid land than the lands he is use to.

Gil-Gandel and Mulligan discover the ‘scopers’ appear to be organized. Consulting with Fely, Elfstan from the other party and Captain Mun of Raj it is easy to piece together that Bozisha-Dar and Raj have Thieves Guilds. The chief of the guilds is located here in Bozisha-Dar. The thief scouts leave the party alone and actually a few gives signals that Gil-Gandel realizes but be a guild symbol. At least some of them can see they are watching skilled people.

One merchant that sells the wonderful jerkins seems to know more than he should about the wealth of Gil-Gandel. He offers a wonderful Blue Silk Shirt that gives an armor class of 7/F and can absolutely be slept in, no movement restrictions has the additional dweomer of being vermin proof and always fresh and clean for the wearer. He wishes only 10,200 gold and 3 of Gil-Gandel’s self-made arrows. He is telling the truth about the shirt’s abilities and hiding nothing. He offers to allow you to Identify it if you so desire.

Mulligan needs to decide how many potions she wishes to buy. As to spices and herbs, she can spend a few hundred with great ease and laden her saddle bags fairly full.

Rorimac can actually get a discount on a magic helm. There is a small one that is said to have come from a non-human and is of odd craftsmanship but will give +3 to armor. As the merchant had little chance to sell it, he will let it go for only 7500 gold. The only other helm that will fit is only +1 and will cost 2600gp.

There is a strange magical visor that will allow the Infravision spell a duration of 6 times longer and at 12” instead of 6”. The spell normally last for 2 hours +1 hour per level. So an 8th level casting it would provide Infravision for 60 hours or 5 days. This item is only 3500 gold.

As to maps, none are for sale by order of the Kralji.

Deor spends the most time scouring the shops; his interests being magical and alchemical in nature. Bozisha-Dar is a treasure trove of useful items and goods. For 75 gold he gets a variety of useful plants and seeds to be stored on the Elendil and Binton is willing to look after them.

No other potions are ready but ones that could be prepared or purchased from elsewhere include horse, dog, seal, shark, fox, rat, large monitor lizard and human. This last allows for easy disguise of course.

The scrolls desired are all available and sell for effectively 100 gold per level from those listed.
(Likewise, magic scrolls are of particular interest- Deor would love to find a scroll of Protection from Evil (or Protection from Evil 10' Radius), Rope Trick, or any Monster Summoning spell.)

Kahve is found already ground or as a berry with a bean within that needs to be dried and roasted and then ground. It is a brewed drink but not like tea. It is a stimulant and not alcoholic. He could buy large 25 pound sacks of the berries if he likes. The quartermaster will authorize a full 1000 lbs of space for the Mage that cleaned up his hold to be delivered to Minas Tirith for storage at your expense there. A 1000 pounds would cost 200 gold.

For sale is a large Ruby that would allow fireballs to either be twice the diameter or twice the range or max hit points of damage. This Ruby is priced at 5500 gold and is not negotiable. The vendor mentions that it would even work with a Wand of Fire is such could be found or make an excellent set-piece for a Fire Mages’ Staff of power.

Another expensive item that meets Deor’s interest is a heart shape pendant of pure white alabaster that would protect the wearer’s soul for drains and possession. It is very pricey and would command 18,000 gold however it would almost surely allow safe use of the recently acquired Minor Ring of Power.

As to other potential ingredients for the making of the staff, there is much available. There actually are two stores that specialize in such items. There is even Mithril, ancient Mithril recovered from Númenórean items apparently.

If there is a second Mug of water, Drindoleth will buy it, reasoning that with the semi-arid climate he might very well need the additional water. He will also purchase

-the exotic seeds he is buying with Gilraen
    -two Extra-Healing cures
    -two Better Speed
    -one Water Breathing

If there is not a second Mug of water, then he will add 3 Healing.

Drindoleth is able to get his purchases and an extra water breathing thrown in on the deal.

Since we have on hand someone who can sift truth from lies, I believe there will be no need for Identify, but I did not know that I had ten thousand coins to spend! But if I do, I am happy to trade three of my arrows in addition - or if he has arrow-points of his own I will cheerfully fletch three to whatever length of shaft he wishes; a protective item of this quality is worth a little trouble.

That fire ruby sounds like an excellent acquisition - fireballs of double size would be a devastating weapon in the right time and place. And if we do have the option of picking up enough mithril to point a few arrows, I'm ready to handmake some shafts for any of our archers if our Dwarves will craft the heads.

"Gilraen, I'd like to humbly as to take you up on your offer. There are real treasures being sold here, and I do want to be able to snap up a couple quickly. I intend to pay you back, for the most part, with anything that we gain in working against the evil schools of wizardry, but of course, I can't promise that I'll be able to entirely pay you back as quickly as that. Would you be able to help me out?
Deor spends the most time scouring the shops; his interests being magical and alchemical in nature. Bozisha-Dar is a treasure trove of useful items and goods. For 75 gold he gets a variety of useful plants and seeds to be stored on the Elendil and Binton is willing to look after them.
Done and done. He'll compare with Drindoleth and Gilraen, and freely trade between them, intending to increase his stock with Plant Growth
No other potions are ready but ones that could be prepared or purchased from elsewhere include horse, dog, seal, shark, fox, rat, large monitor lizard and human. This last allows for easy disguise of course.
So tempting... Maybe when we return, if there is enough gained from this adventure. I'll have to pass for now. Just for kicks, though, what would a shark potion cost?
The scrolls desired are all available and sell for effectively 100 gold per level from those listed.
(Likewise, magic scrolls are of particular interest- Deor would love to find a scroll of Protection from Evil (or Protection from Evil 10' Radius), Rope Trick, or any Monster Summoning spell.)
Deor will happily purchase scrolls containing Protection from Evil 10' Radius and Monster Summoning I. He'll see if he can get the merchant to throw in a scroll of Rope Trick along with it, hopefully totaling 600 gold spent.
Ah, "Kah-ve." Sounds familiar, and delicious. Deor will happily pay 200 gold and will thank the quartermaster for his generous use of the hold, and send the quartermaster back with 25 gold to store the kahve on shore in Gondor, in the event that the Elendil should return before I do and he needs the space.

    825 gold spent thus far.
Absolutely. This is an excellent find. Deor is quite excited to purchase this, and hopes his excitement at finding it didn't show through to his face and drive up the price too badly.

    6325 spent.
Another expensive item that meets Deor’s interest is a heart shape pendant of pure white alabaster that would protect the wearer’s soul for drains and possession. It is very pricey and would command 18,000 gold however it would almost surely allow safe use of the recently acquired Minor Ring of Power.
Oh, very exciting. Very exciting. Deor will have to ask around; he can't raise that much himself, at the moment. Might the vendor lower the price just a little? That's an extremely expensive purchase, and there's usually some wiggle room in things of that cost. Maybe the group can help him out? This ring is a seriously powerful magical object; being able to use it safely would be a real boon.
As to other potential ingredients for the making of the staff, there is much available. There actually are two stores that specialize in such items. There is even Mithril, ancient Mithril recovered from Númenórean items apparently.
Deor is quite intrigued by everything, and will take notes on what he likes. However, he isn't quite ready to buy-- maybe as the party returns to the port to leave.

He has, by his count, 4325 remaining; he'd like to inquire among the rest of the party and see if he can beg, borrow, or scrape up the rest of the 13,675 to buy the pendant. Anyone help him out?

The Shark potion would cost 1800.

They don’t have Rope Trick. The one in the book does quite work the same either.

If you forgo the Ruby and scrolls the pendant is nearly in reach with the help of Gilraen. She is especially willing to loan you the money for that item. I see you have 10893. She can loan you 6000.

Another option is to see about bartering your wand. You have barely used it and it should have some real value. For your 10000 and the Wand he will give you the Pendant and Ruby.

Hmm. Deor would like to hold on to that wand- he'd forgotten about it in the last adventure, but it sure would come in handy. Is the vendor interested in the Red Shield?

Ah, "kahve." Heheh. I get it.

After much consideration, and if Gilraen thinks it would be a good idea, Thoroncir decides to buy the Permanent Strength potion. Through some good-natured haggling he learns that a slight discount for the volume purchase by the party would mean he'd have exactly the right amount of money, with only ten gold pieces left. He feels very fit anyway and is ready for the weeklong workout regimen that potion's success would require.

After the offloading of the parties' horses from the Elendil, he will make sure that they are well-stabled and fed, speaking to them in Horse to ensure that all are well.

After repaying Elfstan for the Thieves tools bought many months ago, Mulligan is happy with a couple of Water breathing and a Couple of Levitation potions and a fair chunk of herbs and spices. It leaves about 3750 which she is happy to give to Deor if he wants to buy the alabaster pendant. Having two functional minor rings of power in the party can only be a good thing.

Rorimac umms and aahhs and then settles on the +3 helm and a potion of superheroism. Although the infravision visor would be useful, it wasn't quite what he was looking for. Maybe next time.

For Gil-Gandel, the merchant but desired 3 of the curious and never seen before light-weight arrows of Gil-Gandel's making. The Dwarves are not skilled at making arrow heads. Even with Mithril they could fashion nothing special.

For Deor, the merchant would take the Shield in trade and discount 2500 from your purchase of both items.

For Thoroncir, Gilraen thinks something that would allow for permanent self improvement makes absolute sense. She would have loaned you the money if you were short.

Rorimac is short on gold to but more than the +3 helm for 7500 gold. After the potion it leaves him around 1120 gold, mostly in trade gems.

Mulligan buys 200 in spice and herbs and fills her saddlebags. After the pair of levitation and water breathing potions she still has 4400 left over.

Having made his purchases, Rorimac approaches Ithilneth. "I noticed you bought very little and I did not think it fair that I should spend your gold all on myself."

He holds out his hands and in them is a small silver pendant of the moon with an inset pearl and tiny gems around it for the stars.

"For the Lady of the Moon, a little something to say thank you."

It is a small silver pendant of the moon with a large pale pearl as the set piece. There are very tiny gems set around the pearl to clearly represent the stars. It will cost around 500 gold and actually aids the mending spell when used at night. It works better, faster or on a large amount of material.

Mulligan comments to "Deor, if you are still short, I have 4000gp burning a hole in my purse here which we have been ordered to spend. Don't make me be forced to buy a dress, please"

"Actually thinking about it, we are supposed to almost ambassadors and spending money, maybe I will buy a dress or two in the local style and fabrics. Especially if we are going to be guests of the local wizards and nobility, perhaps some earrings and necklaces to go with it. After all, it's not as if I am having to spend my own money on it. And I'm sure making a good impression on the locals is always worth it, so I supposed I can thank King Elessar later for his generosity and I'm sure he would like to see that his money was well spent."

Mulligan will buy a pair of dresses and matching jewellry, in the best local fabrics and cut in the local style if possible, for 100-200gp.

"A token of fellowship, given with grace and aplomb", sings Ithilneth in Nandorin. And in Westron, "Thank you very much, Rorimac Brandybuck!" She partially undoes her long hair and then deftly weaves the pendant and chain securely into the braids. When done, the soft gleam of the pendant shines brightly against her black hair. Dulindar seems fascinated by the sparkle, too.

Ithilneth will invest the remainder of her coin in +2 Arrows.

After what Ithilneth gave Rorimac, she has enough for a single +2 arrow and a +1 arrow.

And talking of arrows, here are three of mine, with my compliments. With no mithril arrowheads in the offing, I'll just stock up on nice straight arrow-wood and whatever good steel points are to be had. May as well have plenty of my handmades ready even if they have no other virtues.

That brings Deor to 14,325 for a pendant that costs, with the trade-in Red Shield, 15,500. Deor is holding a Scroll that carries three Lightning Bolts, and he'd be happy to offer that in trade. Likewise, while he likes the +2 knife he got in the last mission, the pendant is more directly useful, so he'll see what he could get for that, too.

If Deor still needs more, Drindoleth offers to pay for the rest.

Deor can borrow 4000 from Mulligan and 6000 from Gilraen. 23,700 was your goal for the 2 items and the kahve.
You have 10893 in gold and gems and 2500 off for the Shield you are now close. The knife will close the deal. It will leave you 93 gold and a lot of debt.

Done. That's pretty steep, but Deor thinks it's worth it. He thanks Drindoleth for his generosity, but there's no need to take on more debt than is absolutely necessary.

Now that that's done, Deor will happily retire to the Illusionists' school for the night, to examine his purchases. He'd love to try on that Ring of Power now that it's fairly safe to do so, but will make sure that someone's around to supervise him anyway. He'll refrain from sending off a couple Fireballs into the night sky to try out the new Ruby; that seems like it might upset people unnecessarily.

Oh, and Deor will make a point of making Mulligan all the sleep potions for her injection dagger that she wants, as well as charging up her slingstones with spells. That was a very generous gift, and he's very thankful.

Captain Sir Thoroncir takes Deor aside and quietly says, "Although I've spent virtually all that I was allotted by Crown Prince Eldarion for this goodwill shopping spree, I have other funds and would be glad to pay any of your debt that you wish. You've helped my lady the Princess and me many times before with your spellcraft, and I'd be pleased to return the favor."

Deor hesitates, takes a deep breath, and turns to face Thoroncir, drawing himself up to his full height, still several inches below Thoroncir's face, before answering. "I'm honored that you, a Sea-Knight of Gondor, are so loyal to a poor son of Rohan that you'd offer to spend from your personal coffers to help me. I am likewise honored to have fought at your side, and to have had my life guarded by you and that you feel that I've been of service in assisting you. Please understand, therefore, that this is precisely why I have to refuse; I feel that I'm already in your debt, and before I allow myself to dig deeper, I need to try to pay what I owe on my own. I may, indeed, fail at recovering the money that I've spent today-- magic is not a particularly lucrative career, unless you make choices I hope never to face-- but I need to fail on my own before I accept assistance from a comrade. It is from my own sense of pride, I think, that I must refuse for now, and should I find myself short in future, I will certainly come to you for help. For the moment, however, I will try to cover my own debts before I take you up on your generous offer. Thank you both for your generosity and your discretion."
