New episode tonight? We hope?
As in... what portion of it?
The spoilery ending, and what it means? Because I have some pretty clear guesstimations there.
Or ... which part? How dragons work in their 'verse? I guess they take on human forms...
But as far as what The Mother is; Gaia is the mother of Typhon and Echidna, who are called "Father of Monsters" and "Mother of Monsters". So either it refers to Gaia in that sense, which I doubt, or more likely Echidna.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echidna_%28mythology%29
She birthed a lot of monsters, unsurprisingly, given her nom de plume.
Yes, I'm assuming that "Mother" is Echidna for the time being.
This whole Purgatory/monsters-and-their-mothers plot does seem to be a bit unnecessarily byzantine, but I liked this episode overall. There were a bunch of funny lines, and it was so refreshing to not want to punch Sam in the face all the time.
I'm kinda unclear on why they needed that big pack o' virgins, when they only tossed in one for the ritual. Any thoughts on that?
And yeah, the Purgatory thing is giving me a headache. I guess that's why I was kinda grumpy about the episode, which did have some good bits.
Snacks? Or maybe Ma-monster burns through bodies quickly, like Lucifer did?
I don't know if you've ever seen the really long Plinkett review of The Phantom Menace, but there's a bit in there where he's trying to parse out what's going on for the pod race. Because of this, whenever I try to think too hard about the overarching Purgatory plot line, I have a goofy old-man-voice piping up in my head going: "that don't make no sense."
I'm thinking the first virgin was for mother.
The other truck full was for her favorite children?
That, or yes, body-burn-through a la Lucifer for good ol' Momonster.
New episode tonight. Apparently Grandpa is back. The thought does not fill me with hope.
Yeesh. It looks like a flashback episode. I will hope that Gramps is just in the flashback. (Which is sad. I never thought I could have this much disdain for a character played by Mitch "Asst. Director Skinner" Pileggi. )
I was happy with the last ep, because I welcome nothing more than a Monster of the Week diversion from a weird and not-that-compelling arc.
I agree. It was mostly bickering brothers and crazy spider-people, and that was a good thing.
The whole season is largely Episodic Monster Of The Week nonsense! That's why it's decent. It's getting back to roots, just, Turned Up To Eleven.
True enough, but I found it hard to enjoy the monsters of the week while soulless-robot Sam was filling me with a desire for face-punching. Not to mention the Campbells. And mopey Dean feeling his sad mopey feelings all the damn time.
We have plenty of Wacky Monsters to look forward to; it's like a magical El Nino, now with Echidna Action!
I think she probably does burn out the bodies, is my guess...
But yes! Dean's emo can annoy. Campbells need facepunching. And RoboSam was a little ridiculous sometimes. The formula is getting back to status quo now, yay!
Next week is creepy mannequins! Which are right up there with ventriloquist's dummies for creep-factor! I look forward to this development.
Soulless Sammy was quite the sex machine uh? During a few days in town, on business, he banged half the babes in that little burg.
I guess women just dig soulless killers.
It's why Dean usually has such a good track record.
Soulless, tall, good-looking killers with ... shoulders and um ....
::cough::
Anyways, I don't think it was his soul they were interested in.
Moderately off-topic:
A groomsmen photo from Jared Padalecki's recent wedding.
Please note the groomsmen second from the left, and then go AWWWW.
Oh, it's enough to make you barf rainbows, isn't it.
... and now it is time to dust off my plans for destroying all mannequins on Earth. With fire.
SO. CREEPY.
I hate dolls and I hate mannequins and ASJSKDJADSLKJADJLAKADAKA
That was a pretty odd, disjointed episode. (Although the bit about the kidney was a nice twist.) The whole Ben and Lisa thing really threw me off kilter, although I guess they raised an interesting question. They've saved the world from Satan, Sam has his soul back, is it really impossible for them to retire? Why go to all this stress to save some dicks who, frankly, the world won't miss?
Well, in Dean's opinion, it's because he's too haunted by all of this to ever be a loving, real father and husband. Not so much that he's busy or even LIKES hunting, so much as that it's too late for him to be a real person, and it's "better" if he keeps away from them.
I suffer from PTSD from war; I severely get that feeling.
In addition to Ramses' very good point:
1) The brothers Winchester have a "saving people" thing. While this week's helpless dolts were jackasses, a lot of the time there are innocent people getting hurt, and the guys have spent their whole lives under the assumption that since they know about monsters, they have a duty to fight them.
2) Dean and Sam stopped Satan, yes. This means that most demons (and not a few angels) haaaaatttteee them. To be perfectly frank, I found it a little odd that Dean managed to spend a whole year with Ben and Lisa, and no demon blew up Ben's school, or kidnapped Lisa, or played a nice game of gut-the-neighbors.
Well, he seemed to express to Ben that his worry wasn't so much things finding him, as the worry that Ben would grow up like him, that he wouldn't like the man sitting across the table at breakfast, yada yada. I think that "concern for my loved ones" is a better reason for him to stay away, but was not what he seemed to profess to be worried about...
But yes. They're also bleeding heart softies under their badass bravado, and have a yen to save lives. That said, since Season 4, I get the serious feeling that Dean is ... tired. Beyond tired. Exhausted. Completely, 100% done with this shit. He's going through the motions, and mostly, it's for Sam. I really don't think "altruistic sentiment" is his reason for the hunt anymore.
...
I thought all the meta episodes with Chuck and the conventions and whatnot had inoculated me against the AWKWARD.
I was wrong.
My thoughts exactly!
So, I'll whisper in the dark, hoping you'll hear me.
I ... I can't even watch it, I keep flipping away because ... GOD.
I watched it, because I'm really enjoying being able to see it on TV, and I actually liked the prophet/novelist plot, but this whole episode was just really uncomfortable.
So, I'll whisper in the dark, hoping you'll hear me.
Well, Misha was funny, but then he got stabbed ...
OCTOCOBRA!!??!!!

Yes! The tweet speak and the horrible sweater were probably my favorite part of the episode.
So, I'll whisper in the dark, hoping you'll hear me.
"What, you're Polish now?"
So. Good.
It was painfully hilarious.
Although I found it weird that Dean seemed very supportive of banging a Ruby look-alike...
I think I have an over-developed shame gland. Awkward humor just makes me squirm.
Next week looks good and scary, though!
God, my wife laughed at this one. We hadn't realized that Jared was married to the Ruby actress...that was some good meta.
"At least they're talking..."
Oh, that is it, Supernatural. We are officially in a fight.
What's wrong, my Californian compatriot?
RUFUS. I LIKE RUFUS. HE'S AWESOME.
You know, I literally did yell "but I like Rufus!" At my television. Alone, in my room. Drinking a beer. Yelling at the imaginary people in the television. On a Friday night. Such a winner, I am.

It's basically a serialized horror film.
Ergo.
... I knooowwwwww ...
It was a very weak episode on a lot of levels. However, if that's what it took to get rid of the last of the Campbells, I can live with it.
Looks like. Yay?
Good episode.
Atropos has my glasses.
