    Default Supernatural, Season 6

Well, Sam will be back. Of course he will, but does it seem to anybody else that Hell is easier to get out of than the parking lot at Walmart?

And since he and Dean are obviously going to have to get in the Impala and hit the road, it might be a good time to take out lucrative life insurance policies on Lisa and the little boy.

    Thoughts?

I'm not going to be able to watch it live tonight (sadness), but I'm really looking forward to it.

I've got to figure that somehow Dean will realize that, hey, he's pretty high on a lot of Awful Creatures' hit lists, so maybe hanging around with a yoga instructor and her kid is not the wisest plan in the world, as far as civilian safety is concerned.

I don't know how Sam's getting out of ... wherever he was (was it Hell? I thought Lucifer's prison was not quite the same thing), but I don't really care, because who wants to watch a show about Dean picking up Random Kid from soccer and moping?

Well, that was underwhelming. I don't know where the writers are going with this, but I sure hope they make a stop in having-not-apathetic-writing-ville.

Yeah, last season was pretty exciting to me, but this was a bit meh. Castiel better show back up of a quickness.

Yes, maybe he can undo the lobotomies that the Winchesters have apparently gotten.

Yeah, it was kinda odd. But there was some set up with potential. What brought back Sam and Grandpa? And what game is Grandpa playing with the hide the genie? Let's give it a little time.

My thoughts exactly, Rube. I think the episode gave a really good "What now?" vibe, which I think worked well after last season.

Fair enough. I really liked the opening montage, with the Bob Segar? song.

I'm 90% sure that Clan Campbell is evil. That might be because almost all new characters end up evil.

    OK, episode two.

Well, I liked it when the baby shifter shifted to the baby on the diaper box, although I kicked myself for not seeing it coming.

As we suspected, something is deeply off with the Camerons. What are they, some kind of specimen collectors? And WHAT are they? Grandpa said "They killed three of my people", but everybody looked alive when the boys got upstairs. Hmm..this is obviously the arc story for the season.

And, at last, we're back to the lads on a road show. (My wife's comment: "That Lisa is the greatest woman in the world".)

    So what did others think?

I fully agree with your wife. Lisa didn't get bitchy, she didn't whine. She just said "This isn't you. Go do you, and we'll be here when you need us." The friend I was watching with said that she was the only woman strong enough for Dean, and I'm pretty sure he's right.

Grandpa and company creep me the fuck out. But it is a good point that if you could raise a shapeshifter to be on your team, it wouldn't be a half bad thing.

I like that Lisa gets what Dean is going through and can work with him. I do wonder if that means Ben is going to end up like Adam - having an occasional dad who he sees only when he's passing through town.

I was surprised by the shapeshifter baby.

Creepy grandpa and the creepy cousins make my skin crawl. But I think they're meant to, so that's OK.

I'm definitely happy they didn't waste any more time getting the Impala out of mothballs.

Got to be one of the grossest of the entire show. My wife was hiding her eyes at points.

OK, what's up with Sammy? Dude is cold. The old empathy and compassion is nowhere to be seen. And he's paying for it, rocking the whore's world, and walking away without a backward glance?

My current theory? His body may be back, but this soul's still in hell. That would fit in with Balthazar's little declamation about how valuable and important souls are. Thoughts?

That was exactly where my mind went with Jerry Jax's Balthazar's speech, too. Sam is missing his soul, either in whole or in part, and it's probably still in the Lucifer Containment Box.

My only other theory on that point involved Grandpappy Campbell and a Backwoods Home-Brainwashing Kit. But I think the missing soul thing makes more sense.

Balthazar reminded me of the Trickster. And then I was sad.

You know, I'm sure it wasn't fun for the kid to have Castiel rooting around in his chest, but everyone seems to have forgotten that the kid committed three cold-blooded murders, mmkay? I know his brother was murdered and all, but two wrongs don't make a right...

Yeah, my wife and I thought the same. They were regretting killing the Trickster, and wanted a make-up character.

I know, right? I'm sure Castiel's rib-shuffling was unpleasant and all, but I hardly think it compares to having one's brains eaten by locusts who LIVE INSIDE YOUR SKULL. ::shudder::

So, that was ....different. Must be answering all the fans who wanted to know what Bobby does when he isn't with the Hardy boys. Poor dude doesn't get to eat much, gets all his calories from rotgut.

So it's mentioned again that all is strange amongst the monsters, the old rules don't apply. Where's that leading?

And Bobby has no hesitation breaking a deal with a demon, but Sam sticks up for the legalities. Significant?

    What do we think?

I don't know what I loved more - Chekhov's Woodchipper, or the fact that Crowley's kid was a Captain Gavin MacLeod.

Is there any human recurring character besides Bobby and Rufus who's still alive?

I don't know if it was Sam sticking up for legalities so much as they don't want to give up the chance to have Mark Sheppard come back and chew scenery again later in the season.

Okay, as someone who has enjoyed the whole Twilight thing, I started snickering as soon as I found out the title of this week's episode.

Eh...About two thirds of the jokes are the kind of stuff you read on the Internet, but without the vitriol.

OK, so like, what's goin' on with Sammy? Looks like Dean is going to push for an answer soon, from the previews.

It's genuinely confusing though...Grandpa is hiding stuff from Sam, and Sam is hiding stuff from Grandpa. Who's pulling the strings?

I think this past episode may take the cake for "Most Disgusting Visuals Since People Shoving Their Faces in Deep-Fryers".

I'm surprised they allow that many disembodied torsos on network TV.

So, it would appear (based on the previews) that we were right, and Sammy has no soul. What to do, what to do?

Maybe get in touch with those gypsies or witch doctors from Buffy?

Is it just me, or is Jared essentially a cold actor, who works much better when he's playing a dick then when he's trying to be the empathetic one?

    Find Willow Rosenberg!

Either there will be some angelly solution, or they'll find out that Sam's soul is what is keeping Lucifer locked up, and we'll be stuck with the Sambot for the duration of the season.

It's not just you, although I'm not too inclined to agree wholeheartedly. But that's probably because his performance this season has been making me want someone to be kicking Sam in the jaw every single second he's on screen.

Which, you know, good job Jared, but still.

OK, this is getting dismal. The series never did make much sense, but Crowley suddenly having super "pull people out of Lucifer's Box" powers is retarded. The whole point of Lucifer's Box is that it's a super max security devil prison, for God's sake.

And Jared is still doing a great job of playing a guy that you wouldn't want to spend an hour with, and we're spending an hour with him.

And god, Dean. STOP WHINING! When he was sitting moping staring at Lisa's name on his phone I was yelling STOP IT! Go pick up a couple of strippers!

At least it looks like a comic episode next week. Let's hope for the best.

We are very on the same page, Rube.

I do think the show is better when there's some humor, so I am cautiously optimistic for next week. But good lord, I don't know how much more I can take of The Adventures of Mopey and the Mandroid.

Agreed. Oh, for the days of, say, Dean and Eye of the Tiger. The Crowley storyline isn't doing anything for me, and I liked Crowley's appearances last season.

Yeah, Crowley was fine as a self-indulgent demon looking out for number one. As King of Hell, he's retarded as Hell.

Well, that at least had it's amusing aspects, and I can see the writers and actors having fun with Dean being the sensitive one and Sam being the tail hound.

But still...the whole no soul thing is just too stupid to take seriously. As the show realizes, lots of people with souls act horribly. What exactly is the soul supposed to do? And Sam supposedly has all his memories, he knows how he acted when he had a soul, why does he have to have normal behaviour explained to him like a Lutheran learning about vindaloo? I'm just not buying it.

Well, I dunno what to add. The suck just keeps on comin', don't it? WTF is up with Grandpa. And Crowley really couldn't retrieve the soul? So how could he get the body? And now he's dead.

And I'm not really complaining, but the nude Meg in bondage was more porny than scary. And are she and Cas gonna form some unholy horny alliance?

Bright sides, such as they are: Jared's still obviously having fun playing a badass. And boy, isn't it amazing how losing a soul raises a Winchester's IQ by 50 points?

So now we've got a "Death Takes a Vacation Episode". (Sorta -- I can't imagine that people stopped dying on the rest of the planet while Dean was dealing with three deaths in the United States in 24 hours.) And Sammy's got his soul back -- kinda too bad, although they did finally give a reason why it was A Bad Thing for him not to have it.

And the rest of the season will be about just how important souls are. Or something.

    I kinda miss tied-up Meg.

OK, but if Sam starts whining again, Dean has to go back to eating cheeseburgers and picking up strippers. I can't listen to them both be soulful.

Goddammit. Instead of playing Supernatural, my station was playing that Femme Nikita or whatever it is.
