No. Despite my occasional rages and rants, I'm ultimately a big ol' sentimental softy and would never want to hurt anyone. As bad as some of the people I've known are, I know their deaths would hurt innocent people in their lives.

Have you ever peed in a sink?

Probably the game that gave me the most fun was one of the cheesiest you can imagine. Y'see, back in the day, game companies would make card games that were complete in themselves, so you'd buy the game, for a reasonable cost, and lo and behold, you'd have the whole deck of cards for playing the game. Some of these games were nominally serious, others were bitterly sarcastic/ironic (Nuclear War, anyone?), yet others were completely ridiculous (Steve Jackson's Illuminati ), but while there would be some thought required, and strategy, for the most part these games were light, quick playing, and fun.

For those last three qualities, nothing can beat Avalon Hill's Naval War card game. It was cheesy, the card stock was so cheap you had to be careful or you'd shuffle the cards into each other, and was the furthest thing you could imagine from a serious historical war game. It was also easy to learn (maybe five minutes to describe the rules, and people were ready to go), well balanced, and fun. You could start pick up games anywhere, and a full game would take maybe 20 minutes. I played that game in places I never imagined, with people whom I never would have expected to care for that sort of game, and had more fun for my $5.95, than I ever imagined possible.

What is the grossest thing you've done?

That's hard to pick, given the amount of poop and dead animals and etc I'm around. I mean, I routinely have to cop a feel on my geldings. I cut open dead animals sometimes. I clean a lot of poop.

I'm going to go with the time I unintentionally made a goat's abscess burst in my face.

A mutual friend introduced us. He was going to join an RPG that we had been playing and Rabbit and I talked about some stuff we could do with our characters. The crush was nearly instantaneous and lingered in the background for years.

I would be Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Arc. Why? Because he's awesome and if I'm going to make people angry with a remake I might as well get ridiculous.

You didn't specify they had to be living, so my grandfather. I wasn't there when he was dying. My uncle thought I had moved so didn't call me and I didn't find out my grandfather had cancer until after he had died. If I'd stayed in closer contact with that side of my family they would have known I hadn't moved yet.

Tossed salad with croutons, bacon bits and rice noodles with raspberry vinaigrette dressing; cheese tortellini with lots o' pesto; garlic bread. Washed down with very cold water and a full-bodied merlot. (As it happens, that's often my birthday meal, too).

If you could go back in time to a historical event more than 30 years ago, observe it to your heart's content but not interfere, and then return, all safely, what would you pick?

Blood Oath by Christopher Farnsworth. It's a great action-adventure novel about a vampire working for the U.S. Government, our last line of national defense against supernatural threats. There are in-jokes about Frankenstein, H.P. Lovecraft, Night of the Living Dead, Friday the 13th, and veiled "secret history" references to the Nuremberg Trials, Watergate, the 1981 Reagan assassination attempt, etc. It's fun and clever and very readable. Could make a great movie. Check it out.

Yes, I always enjoy the holidays, especially the chance to see family, give and get gifts, hear seasonal music and dig into the food. It's too early for Christmas music on the radio, though, dammit!

Nope. One weird aspect of life in Jakarta is that we don't carry any keys. The driver has the car keys (we don't drive ourselves except on very rare occasion), and the guard is always at the gate so our house is never locked except at night from the inside, where the key is left in the lock at all times.

I'm used to it now, but not carrying keys anymore was one of the most peculiar aspects of moving here.

I have one on the base of my spine, riiiiiight above ye olde buttcrake, which is the result of falling while skating. I was fairly sure I was dying for a few seconds as I laid there, unable to breathe and in the most exquisite agony of my life. At the very least I thought I'd never walk again. (But I did.)

What is the first trip you can remember going on?

I barely remember taking a helicopter ride into NYC when I was very young. My parents tell me I stooped over as I approached the helicopter for fear of the rotor chopping my head off, but I was so small that I actually could've jumped up and down and still been perfectly safe!

No, I can generally discern a lesser of two evils. Though I've had few opportunities to vote over the past couple of decades due to our peripatetic lifestyle.

And be guaranteed to land the gig? No question: I would be President of the United States. The chance to do good, to shape history, to push for the policies I favor, to travel, to live in the White House etc., would all be irresistible. I know that the job would be very, very difficult, but still, I'd go for it in a heartbeat.

Yes I do, as long as it is warm. A good thing, too, since this past weekend I went hiking in the foothills of Java and we got the full effect of a tropical downpour - there were no hiking trails up the mountain left, they were replaced by waterfalls.

Anything that is AWD, high clearance, manual transmission, excellent shock absorbers, plenty of room for camping gear and a few trimmings: AC, good sound system.

So my Subaru Forrester is A-OK with me (except it's automatic). I don't really want anything else in a vehicle.

Not really. I have an irrational fear of being shot to death, but I know that it's very unlikely. I'll probably die of a heart attack, I suppose, but not for a loooooooong time, I hope.

    In no particular order:

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
    Harold & Maude
    Galaxy Quest
    This is Spinal Tap
    Office Space
    American Beauty

(Okay, that's 6. So sue me.)
