Uh, oh. Kylah's been spored
23-year-old Kylah, with no experience at this sort of thing, has known Rangin for a couple of months and spent some intense time with him saving each other's lives on the Sakathian mission (the slime devil attack), they shared some mutual animus toward Collins for her decisions re: handcuffing Porr to his dead wife (never underestimate shared outrage as a link!), followed by their drinks/dinner date after which she told him her secret about Ferguson and he actually tried to help her with that, and basically he's the only person other than T'Var who tolerates her, so of course she's grateful and disposed positively toward him. Even after all that time, this is her first actual sexual attraction to him. (And, um, possibly to anyone.)
Meanwhile, 50-year-old world-weary experienced Booker Graham's known Bennett like three days and he's already dying to buy big teddy bears and make mix tapes for the girl.
Totally different, harumph.
I kinda would love for him to make those mix tapes heavy in Air Supply and Chicago songs. Or their 23rd century equivalent.
oh, you gotta throw some Uncle Bonsai in, just for kicks
Wishing everyone a happy, safe and very tasty Thanksgiving!!!
Likewise.
I don't know why, but this hits my funny bone just right: http://manolofood.com/wp-content/upl...hop-turkey.gif
NASA has the coolest pics: http://www.cnn.com/2013/11/28/tech/i...html?hpt=hp_c3
those are cool. Is it only me, or does that view of Mars in # 11 look like the me gusta face?
also: poor froggy

I'd never heard of that meme before, but I see the resemblance.
Ok, so perhaps I have been devoting too much thought to the whole mixtape concept (but after all I do have time off for the holiday) but for sure Graham will endeavor to take Bennett for a walk one evening, ending up at an empty Observation Deck where Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush is queued up, ready for them to dance ( ).
This will entail entertaining moments for all:
1. "Computer," Graham says, "Queue Solid Gold Hits of 1978."
2. "Security," Graham says to the crew members peacefully stargazing on the Observation Deck. "Get lost. Now."
3. "Bennet," EH writes, "looks deep into your eyes. I...I...don't feel well," she says--and turns into a zombie.
Meanwhile, Collins "accidently" nudges Kylah so she falls into Rangin's arms.
So much for father/daughter issues! (I hope...) Anyay I don't think Kate Bush would do it for someone who grew up influenced by a melange of Elasian, human and Klingon culture. Either passionate Rachmaninoff is probably the closest we've got on Earth) would probably be more her style.
Aww! Collins is a romantic at heart. I fear sweet Rangin still wouldn't get the message.
BTW for sappy moments she might go for Chopin (e.g. . Those'd sure work on me.
Of course you can't go wrong with "Why Don't We Do It in the Road?"
Man I'm loving this lesbian/sociopath triangle storyline Graham has concocted!
Except he totally does! He's been giving Kylah the benefit of the doubt the whole time--she's the one who was accused of harassment! Imagine how much it would suck to be Ferguson if he were telling the truth? "Sorry, scumbag, young women can't possibly be guilty! Even if she has been asking for sex, you obviously led her on, with that tight-fitting red shirt of yours..."
Since it came up... here are some of my favorite love songs.
Two classics first:
Intermezzo, Cavalleria Rusticana, by Mascagni:
Adagietto, Symphony No. 5, by Mahler:
And of more recent vintage:
"Come Back to Me" by David Cook:
"You Make Me Feel...." by Cobra Starship:
"Lost" by Michael Buble:
"DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" by Usher:
"The Letter" by Joe Cocker:
As you can see, I kinda have diverse tastes....
Klingon opera always reminded me of this for some reason:
In the land of the blind, the one-arm man is king.
Heh - "Ferguson is one more example of a certain sort of Bad Guy I've seen many of during his career and Kylah is Good like my daughter"* fit well with how Graham makes sense of the universe. Messing with either of those would be very uncomfortable for him...
*Of course, obviously she's not as perfect as Bennett
And where does Collins fit in to his world?
T'Var is straight (as far as I know), but she definitely has a strong maternal instinct when it comes to Kylah -- or anyone else who seems vulnerable or in distress.
And yes, T'Var is more than capable of defending herself and others. She was also a member of the V'Shar. Not your typical physician.
The good doctor would love to have a family of her own one day, though she's finding it very difficult to find a suitable mate. She has high standards, of course. Her youthful mistake with Dr. Henry Waite has taught her a lot.
Contrary to what one might think, Graham is -- almost -- not at all sexist. So initially Collins fit into the bucket of "fellow security officer"--however, given her age and gender the whole sister angle (and "the others wouldn't have my back like you would"--nice!) totally pushes Graham's buttons.

That makes perfect sense of course...but for Graham, since he's has been having trouble fitting T'Var into the (fairly limited) number of buckets he uses to categorize people (going all the way back to her display of some emotion on the ship), he's grasping for other signals ("Ah ha! She and Kylah held hands!" )
Given his awesome PSI score and keen grasp of nuance (not) I am betting his assumptions about T'Var may get worse before they get better...
anyrose, I just have to interrupt for a second after reading that "Starfleet commissions" thread and say: holy hell, girl, you lived only 2 miles from the King's Point Academy? I grew up in Great Neck! You must have been very close by! That is very cool.
WES you know in my own mental fanfic, I've been rooting for T'Var to get out of Graham's lesbian box (um, wow, that's not the best way to put that, is it?) and end up in an entirely different category, although that'd have to wait for his Galatea to fall off her pedestal (ideally smashing to bits in the process ).
I believe this is the thread to which anyrose refers: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/...d.php?t=709387
@choie maybe T'Var should make Graham a mix tape
Awesome, that's even better than the idea of Graham making one.
Are you sure you didn't mean Hartley?
Heh. I'd love for Collins to say "Hi Bob!"
I'm just as amused by the appearance of yet another Caitian. Our GM seems to love them even though they never actually appeared on TOS! (Well, except for the movies.) Presumably this one won't get killed off as quickly as the last one. Although now that I think of it, there's no proof he died in the Sakathian lab incident; if he's anything like my cats, he was probably the fastest one running onto the life pods!

Maybe, just maybe, Collins is a xenist/specieist at her core.
Ooh! We don't see that characterization often in Star Trek. At least, not on any of the TNG-era series I watched regularly. It was always the non-Federation (or other species like some of those Vulcan snobs from DS9) who were xenophobes.
That's good role-playing then. GM, be sure to give her XP!
But of course.
Picard & Co. sing a Christmas favorite:
I've seen that around but hadn't listened yet. That is so so bloody marvelous. I also love that he used all the cast, not just Stewart. (Poor Wil Wheaton! I'm sure he got a kick out of it though, he has such a good sense of humor.)
The guy is a genius for tacking that kickstarter appeal to the video -- it's just too bad he didn't have the forethought to have a mailing list website ready to go, because people could have at least clicked to sign up for notification. This way he could take advantage of the goodwill he's engendering now, rather than hoping people remember it later. I mean, he has the Twitter account, but 'twas foolish not to grab emails while he could.
Oh dear. Wilson is clearly intimidated by the length of Graham's... knife.
(Though I suppose it's really Falstofe's knife that's so impressive. Which perhaps explains his popularity.)
