Ah ha, I knew the explanation was something like that

Speaking of which, starting Friday I'll be on vacation for several weeks. The good news is: vacation. The flip side is part of the time I'll be in the Amazon. I expect I'll average a post a day (this is play after all, and everything is pretty swish, we don't really do rustic!) but if I disappear for a day or two (or three) it means I may not have Internet access where we're at.

Sounds terrific, have fun, g_u! Dang, nice [vacation] if you can get it!

But one post a day, possibly less, yipe! and EH himself is already down to one post a day. This mission won't end until 2016!

Not that it's a democracy, but can lightning strike Graham while Hardin zips back to the hotel? At least Rangin can follow, and thereby he and Kylah can have some good interaction. Especially if the lights go out. Terror and lovin' in the dark!

Heh the funny thing is that Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood has been taken over by Amazon - 10-20 buildings that are all or mostly Amazon folks, plus of course all kinds of bars and restaurants catering to thousands of well-paid 20 somethings.

One really could get a room at the Fairmont down there and life the life for a week, if that wouldn't make you stick a fork through your own eye, of course...

In the interest of not having lightning or a mysterious pile of rocks descend from the sky on Graham (but seriously for EH's benefit to plan stuff),* from this Friday - Monday, probably more than 1, 0-2 through midweek 1 ish, it's the following week that's really hard to say!

Not punishing brief absences is fine! But positive reinforcement works too, so how about rewarding steadfast presences? That's what I wanna know!

And here's my virtual thanks in return. Edited to add: Oh, look, Collins gets the cookie instead. That actually sounds about right for this game!

Anyway. Since subspace messages aren't exactly instantaneous, what with it taking 20 minutes for Graham's message to get to Wilson's wife*, how long would it take for Ebling's message to reach Starfleet Command, assuming that is whom she contacted? I'd have Kylah ask this in the thread, but as a Comm officer I'm assuming she'd know it.

Graham cannot be sure that Mrs. Wilson ever got the message.

A message to Starfleet Command could take hours to get to Earth and have an answer come back.

Geeze I hope the poor woman (or lucky one, as it may be) hears the message before the news gets public!

Thanks for the info on the communication speed. I wasn't sure if Starfleet Command might have some outpost on Vulcan or any other place nearer to us than Earth. But hours is definitely too long to wait!

Being naught but an ignorant Comm officer (and not even really that), I don't quite understand Hsu's latest response. What's the difference between a transmission grid and a power generator? I would have assumed the transmission grid had to do with communications and stuff. But if the power fusion reactor or whatever is fine, why are the lights flickering?

Power Generator - what creates all the power
Transmission Grid - the wires that move the power around all over the resort.

Losing the Transmission grid is a fancy way of saying the lines are down for electricity.

Ahhhh. So basically Hsu gave more info than Kylah really needs to know. The layman's version of this interaction would be:

"Dude, are we gonna lose electricity?"
"Oh no of course not.... well, except we totally might."

    Thanks as always, CIAS.

CIAS has it right. Of course this isn't quite like something the Wichita lineman would work on, but the 23rd century equivalent of it. Power would still be generated, but it might not get where it needs to go.

Wichita lineman, ai yi yi, how dare you get that earworm infesting my brain. You're a cruel man, EH.

Rangin's latest Apocrypha was fun to read--he seems destined to spend time in bad weather, poor guy. And he was certainly a lot more of a risk-taker than one would think. No wonder he's such a planner now.

Did I understand the plan correctly, though? He's sabotaging Orion Syndicate mines by blowing them up, right? Isn't that putting the raptors and all the other animals Velir loves so much in danger too? And why would the miners be embarrassed? Maybe I don't fully understand what the deal is between the O.S. and Coridan. Are the miners there in secret, or is it an arrangement allowed by Coridan's government? Help!

Coridan is a planet full of dilithium and also has a small...no medium...alright a huge corruption problem. As a result there are several illegal mines being run on the planet by a variety of people including the Orion Syndicate. Now, Rangin is very much someone who wants his planet for Coridanites and not being raided by other races, see Tellarities, Andorians and everyone else who has been trying to take Coridan's resources for their own and when younger was taking matters into his own hands with some friends. You can consider the wisdom and intelligence of such actions at your own leisure.

Rangin certainly does in those dark hours before the dawn on occasions.

However the expected result of the attack would be an illegal mine with a set of miners milling around with absolutely no power, and having had a large beacon go off (the generator) so that military forces can come in and arrest the lot of them. There is no intention to detonate it across the entire valley.

It occurs to me that this adventure is too long for a TV episode, and it's bordering on being too long for a two part movie. We're talking LotR epic trilogy here.

Hi all - the next two days will be days at sea, assuming no interruption in connectivity (satellite, which has been solid if a bit slow) will be good ones for me to post if we want to carry on to the next scene(s).

Or you can just carry on impressively as has been done with Graham as Ens. Dunsel (or Marzipan Dildo)...

On the flip side, my pedicurist yesterday* looked just like Marina Sirtis, so I can't complain (having checked Wikipedia re: Sirtis they are both of Southeastern European ancestry so there's some sort of geographical / ethic basis to the look apparently).

*No I haven't had one before. We should work in Graham getting one into the story at some point. If I can, he can. Maybe with Rangin...

Rangin would be quite capable of giving Graham a pedicure. He has, when he was younger, cut the toenails of large lumbering animals of limited hygiene and intelligence that can't do it for themselves.

Would he like a sugar cube when Rangin has finished?

Yes, but with fewer psychedelics and more blood.

Speaking of which, Kylah is beginning to see a red mist herself, the way Mrs. Hsu is acting as if she's provided her alibi for that night when she totally hasn't. What the hell?

Heh. Kinda sad that she's at her most efficient and productive when none of her team is around to notice. Then again, maybe that's not a coincidence. She's let the team down by cowardly backing out of the dangerous mission. If she can narrow down some of these inconsistencies and find more evidence to nail Hardin (or an accomplice), at least she won't feel quite as big a disappointment.

Although it will be cold comfort if someone ends up hurt while racing* to capture Hardin.

    * Albeit this is a rather broad definition of "racing," considering the length of time it's taking these men/women of action to walk out the freaking door.

If humidity counts it is wet here, but it is nudging 100F....

In main thread 3205 btw Graham may have modified his original orders slightly based on the range of the modified tricorders, but otherwise indeed all still stands.

Also, too, we ate piranha today. If I were Graham I would hope that somehow that would discomfit Ranging

Various members of the crew, at different places on the grounds, spot Hardin running for his life. Before any of them can act, a blue light beam hits him and he disintegrates. They all turn in the direction of the beam and see a Cyberman in a brigadier's cap standing on a hill with his arm raised.

    Oh, I'm sorry. Wrong fandom.
