Default Are household radon kits a rip off and why?

    * OtakuLoki thinks that household radon kits are the biggest rip off since phrenology.
I was wondering why Loki said that about the Radon kits.

Specifically I was wondering if he thought they don't do the job or if the danger is over-rated?

I am curious as I have a basement with slightly elevated Radon levels according to the tests and I am a little nervous about it.

A friend of mine who lives somewhere in the wilds of Illinois or Ohio or one of those remote places, just bought a new house and it turns out it has elevated levels of Radon and the seller has to remedy that. AND, interestingly enough, the levels of Radon all over the middle part of the continent were affected (or increased?) by the recent Ontario earthquake.
