The sun was going down behind a tattooed tree
And the simple act of an oar's stroke put diamonds in the sea
And all because of the phosphorus there in quantity
As I dug you diggin' me in Mexico.

There in the valley of Scorpio, beneath the cross of jade
Smoking on the seashell pipe the gypsies had made
We sat and we dreamed a while of smugglers bringing wine
In that crystal thought time in Mexico.

Sitting in a chair of bamboo, sipping grenadine,
Straining my eyes for a surfacing submarine.
Kingdoms of ants walk across my feet,
I'm a-shakin' in my seat in Mexico.

Grasshoppers creaking in the velvet jungle night,
Microscopic circles in the fluid of my sight,
Watching a black-eyed native girl cut and trim the lamp,
    Valentino vamp in Mexico.

The sun was going down behind a tattooed tree
And the simple act of an oar's stroke put diamonds in the sea
And all because of the phosphorus there in quantity
I dug you diggin' me in Mexico

Standing by the Everyman, digging the rigging on my sail
Rain fell to sounds of harpsichords, to the spell of fairy tale.
The heath was hung in magic mists, enchanted dripping glades,
I'll taste a taste until my mind drifts from this scene and fades
    In the night time.
Crystals sparkle in the grass, I polish them with thought
On my lash there in my eye a star of light is caught.
Fortunes told in grains of sand, here I am is all I know
Candy stuck in children's hair, everywhere I go
    In the night time,
    In the night time.
Gypsy is the clown of love, I paint his face a smile
Anyone we ever make we always make in style. Yeah!
Yeah, strange young girls with radar screenings, yeah,
And hands as quick as hate
I won't just now, later on maybe and even then I'll wait
    In the night time,
    In the night time.
    In the night time.

Before he became particularly well known and the first time I went to London, I heard a busker singing this. I was quite taken with it and tracked it down.
I'm sure that the busker was Donovan. He used to doss around on the beach in my town (Whitby) but I don't think I ever met him there.

Here's a lovely home recorded live version of his I saw the Dead.

    The National High Violet

my favourite song on it is Bloodbuzz, Ohio, thus far at least.

And finally, Baloji's update of Independence Cha-Cha

This, since An Gadai suggested I listen to it the other day. It's been stuck in my head continuously ever since.

Never been a big fan of Kylie, but omg, this song is like pop music made of heroin:

Taumpy: Oh noes, you aren't a super powerful wave of destruction.
Panther Squad: It's true! My scythe does not shorn the biomonsters in great swaths like it ought!

I like Kylie - just not her songs. Sounds like she's been sucking Helium on that one.

    Mylené Farmer, Il N'y A Pas D'ailleurs.

The video is taken from her film "Giorgino"
Giorgino is played by her lead guitarist,
Also in the cast, Frances Barber and Joss Ackland.
Film bombed and was withdrawn by the producer, Mylené's partner, Laurant Boutonnat and buried for years. Released on DVD last year it is a superb film but a little long at three hours.
Must drag my copy out and watch it again.

I've been listening to some Old Skool House and getting myself some mini "E" flashbacks.

I've become obsessed with M. Ward.

I'm still swimming in harmony. I'm still dreaming of flight. I'm still lost in the waves night after night...

Isn't it, though? I never even listened to M. Ward before that song popped up on my last.fm and I was like
I'm still swimming in harmony. I'm still dreaming of flight. I'm still lost in the waves night after night...

Trip-hop meets Betty Boop. A local amusement park (Lagoon) has been using this (starting at 0:36 or so) as their jingle recently, and it has been stuck in my head something fierce. Catchy, silly, and sexy.

Barbara Cartland was the Queen of Romance. Truth is, she's won my heart too. It's criminal that she released so many books but only one LP!
