Default Scenes edited out when originally broadcast.

Numerous times shows have been cut for television. It seems to happen more regularly with regard to British television than Irish television, anyway below are a number of clips that were removed when these shows were broadcast on this side of the pond.

Another political one, the IRA blowing up John Bull's Chip Shop in the Simpsons.

In another episode Mr. Burns is snapped by a papparrazo (spelling?) and says "Damn you, Papparrazo" or something to that effect. The Pappa word was edited out when it aired on UK tv after Princess Diana died.

AFAIK none of these parts were banned or anything, just edited out by the networks airing them. Anything similar happen in the US?

A number of times episodes of shows have been rescheduled, due to news events. IIRC after the Dunblane massacre an episode of Star Trek: Voyager was rescheduled.

Off the top of my head, there was an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that the network refused to broadcast at first, because it dealt with a student planning on shooting himself at school but it was heavily implied up until the last minute that he was going to go on a killing spree.

Earlier this week, Law and Order:SVU chose to cut a lesbian kiss between Mariska Hargitay and Kathy Griffin.

With regard to the SVU clip, why did they film the scene if they weren't going to air it?

Though not true in the past, it may well be that the scene was intended to be 'straight to the internet'. In a more obvious way SNL did this with some of their unedited digital shorts (like "Dick in a Box").

From what I've been able to gather, the kiss was cut at the last possible minute. I first saw the clip on February 24, Kathy Griffin tweeted that the kiss had been cut on February 26, and the episode aired March 3.

The episode was Season Three's "Earshot," which was written and filmed before the shootings at Columbine, and was originally set to air shortly after (Wikipedia and IMDB both say the ep was supposed to air the very next week).
