Default Football League's first female referee

A bit of a watershed for English football at least and I hope it leads to better things. Football (no, not the US Gridiron version, proper football) is a notoriously macho sport and is considered pretty sexist and homophobic.

However, we have now had the first female league referee, Amy Fearn.

Here's hoping it leads to better things and encourages more women into the game, either as players or as officials. Also at some point in the future, the sexuality of football players could hopefully be considered irrevalent as well.

I'd be interested to see whether more female referees resulted in better on pitch discipline from the players, but I think we are a long, long way from ever seeing female players sharing the pitch with their male counterparts. Not that I'd object to the spectacle, and I'd love to see one of them running up the pitch with her shirt over her head, if they ever managed to score.
