Default Did drivers' licenses use to indicate whether or not the driver wore glasses?

I have this impression that at one point in history your license used to say if you wore glasses -- I suppose so the cops could ticket someone for failing to wear them. I know they don't put that on drivers' licenses anymore, at least not in Michigan, because last time I renewed my license and took the eye test no one even asked if I was wearing contacts. So there's nothing on my license that indicates the fact that I probably couldn't pass the eye test without corrective lenses. Did they use to indicate this on drivers' licenses? Did they stop because the popularity of contacts made it impractical for cops to try to figure out if someone was wearing corrective lenses?

Yes they did at least in some states like NJ.

I would think it was nearly universal back at one point.

Actually mine still says on the back: 1- Corrective Lenses Required. So some states still list it.

If they ever did it in Nevada, they stopped before I was driving. I do however remember an episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air where this requirement listed on somebody's license was a plot point, though!

I have a less-than-a-year-old Texas driver's license, and it has a spot on it for restrictions, which would include a corrective lenses restriction if I needed them. Working at a LASIK clinic as I do, we fill out dozens of DPS forms per month so that people who used to have corrective lens restrictions on their licenses can get them taken off.

The back of my license says that I wear corrective lenses.

I don't think so, therefore I'm probably not.

They still do in Mass (at least, as of five years ago when I last had mine renewed). It's on the back.

I'm in Michigan, and mine still says that.

And it's a new one, since I got married in October and had to do the Sec of State thing all over. Both the old one in the old name and the new one say that.

Maybe they only list the restrictions if you're wearing glasses at the time of the test?

Maybe . . . although I can't understand why it would work that way. I guess maybe I was just lucky I didn't happen to be wearing glasses the day I renewed my license.

I think they ask if you're wearing contacts before you do the vision test (side note: the eye pieces around those are the foulest and greasiest things ever) and were you to get in an accident because you admit you were driving without your glasses or whatever corrective stuff you use and the cop notices that you don't have a restriction for it I'm thinking you might be in a bit of trouble.

In NY my current license has a restriction for "corrective lenses" on the back of the license.

The restriction is on the back of my Texas DL.
I once got a ticket for not having my glasses on while driving. The A/C had quit and I had taken them off to wipe the sweat off my fave as I exited a freeway. A cop stopped me for speeding on the off-ramp and also cited me for no glasses. I beat that in court, but had to pay the speeding ticket.

Certainly they did while I had a NH drivers license (back when we all drove Model Ts, of course). I was stopped by a cop once while wearing contact lenses and he took a very close, in-my-face look to be sure he could see them. And while I'm too lazy to check the drivers license from Hawaii that I have now, I'm pretty sure it mentions glasses.

Mine also says "Driver must wear eyeglasses or contact lenses." Georgia.

My TN driver's license has a corrective lense restriction on it, as did the one in IN previously.

My Utah license says Restrictions: B and on that back clarifies B--Corrective Lessons.

I got this license in 2007.

Oklahoma - mine has a Corrective Lenses Required restriction, and has since I got it in 1980.

Indeed. They won't let me drive unless I go to driving school once a month. It's awful.

Also, the restriction includes corrective lenses.

My Illinois license has a spot for restrictions. Mine lists restriction B, which when I looked it up online says "requires corrective lenses."

I'm pretty sure they all indicate whether or not you need to wear glasses. You're just most likely too blind to find it.
