For chat, I tested and it is taking posts but does not display or clear the entry line. Can view the posts on the archive page. The rest of the board is working but perhaps sluggish.

The board is acting up for me and I can't get chat to load at all. Unfortunately, I have no answers for anybody's questions.

I first noticed the problem about 3:00 AM Eastern time. (Let's not get into why I was up and trying to get onto chat then.) The board loads, but chat doesn't. And the Trunk Line window just pulls up those error messages you'd quoted, Jim.
The front page appears to be load only with a lot of errors,

I hope this helps and I hope someone recently changed the Init file for some reason. That would make it easier to troubleshoot.
I know the Domebo.net site was discontinued Saturday. It was up for removal and I cancelled it to avoid CRSP getting hit with a wasted charge. That was a siteground hosting. Mellophant is on GoDaddy. I believe Pachydome is also on GoDaddy but NAF1138 had secured that for two years in August and I don't think it should affect Mellophant anyway.

I posted a message for the administrators.
Basically, I believe was some kind of automatic upgrade of PHP that created a few issues:
* .htaccess errors
* Drupal 5 (the base of vBDrupal) is incompatible with PHP 5.3.
* Apparently, the chat plugin also has compatibility issues.
The issue started around 2:00 AM EST, when I was in bed.
I can suppress the error messages, but that won't help with chat.
I can't do a PHP rollback until later tonight.

Got it narrowed down: PHP 5.2.11 upgraded automatically last night to 5.3.1, which created compatibility issues.
Since it isn't loading, I've turned chat off for now. I'll turn it back on once we have this issue resolved.

PHP was rolled back to the previous version. The errors no longer appear on the vBDrupal-based pages. It's probably safe to fire up chate again.

I cannot tell you how happy I am this had nothing to do with me. My first thought was, "Oh Crap, I did one little things and somehow crapped out the board. There is no way this could be related so how did it happen?"
But I realized it was very unlikely and just an odd coincidence.

There was a setting in WHM (Web Host Manager) that enables automatic updates to PHP. I was unaware that automatic updates were switched on, or how PHP 5.3 had some compatibility issues with VBDrupal and other scripts such as the chate plugin.
Again, I apologize for the problems.
Seriously, it's not a problem, Elmwood. Parts of the site were down for a couple hours. That's pretty minor. Especially to a group of people who are used to the SDMB.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. FOR THIS OFFENSE YOU MUST BRING THE DONUTS AND LATTES TO THE NEXT BOARD MEETING.

It looked like there was a server burp a few minutes ago. It lasted for about 10 to 15 minutes, based on the loadavg chart.
