Didn't see this thread before, great topic AG. Songs don't usually make me cry, and these don't get that reaction from me every time, but have at least once.

Taumpy, Sufjan has very many tear-jerking tunes like Casimir, although I have to say that it is paramount amongst many a veil of tears.

Here's a few more personal crymakers.

I know the above song is an over simplification of complex historical change but it really reflects something of the feeling that many Irish people have.

I can't see some of these as Sony has blocked them from viewing in Canada.

    This one.

There's a plaintive angst to it that just gets me everytime.

"But it's a cri-i-i-ime, to murder ti-i-i-ime. You save yours, I'll save mine!"

    The Grave by Don McLean

ETA: I had to search around for a video where someone didn't cover the whole thing in political commentary one way or the other. So you guys get bad fantasy art instead. Sigh.

My Sweet Lord - George Harrison

This song was a hit at the time of my Mothers death and was one of her favorites. I have a memory of her dancing and singing in the kitchen in the morning sun.

My Sweet Lord is a good one.

McCartney's "We Got Married" is genuinely emotional.
"I won't kill for money, and I won't marry for it. Other than that, I'm open to just about anything."

This sounds light and cheerful but there is an underlying sadness that always gets to me.

When I was in secondary school, one of the masters would play classical music at the Thursday assembly and Per Gynt was a revelation and the first record I bought.

I only ever went to the Thursday assembly as the rest were deadly boring - I was never missed either

This is not a sad song. However, the way I was introduced to it gave it a special place in my heart. I had never heard Red Hot Chili Peppers' Hard to Concentrate before, but there it was listed on the case for a mix tape my boyfriend had given me. When I opened the case up, I discovered inside it was actually an MP3 player cleverly hidden. There are now some terribly sweet associations with the song and I have to stop and get a little sniffly every time I hear it.
