Since hearing Hayley Westenra sing it, I have liked Pie Jesu.

I would probably have skipped it altogether had I known that it was written by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, for his then wife Sarah Brightman.
Her version is IMO nowhere near as good as that of many others, including Ana Netrebko, one of my favourites.

I think the one I prefer the most is by Sissel Kyrkjebø:

I like the way she sings Anius Dei rather than AGnus Dei (Scandinavian pronunciation of "gn"
Not only can these women sing like angels, they look damned good with it.
However the most astounding one has to be an American singer.
I have to point out that I despise talent shows/reality TV and most other TV too, and only stumbled over this as it was mentioned in the comments on one of the previous singers offerings but this girl has the most incredible voice, you wouldn't believe it could emanate from such a tiny person.
She is so pretty and unspoiled too, I do hope that fame doesn't spoil her as it seems to with so many others.

Apologies for the shouty person before and Sharon Osborne afterwards. Worth enduring the pain of that for the pleasure of listening to something unworldly.
Been listening to loads of stuff ripped to the laptop while I 'work' on the desktop - Happy Rhodes, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Holly Cole and Niel Young among others.
It is just playing Inca Queen at the moment.

Gerry Rafferty died today :(
Myglaren, Jackie Evancho has a Christmas CD out, just 4 songs, but totally worth it just to have a recording of her singing O Holy Night.
Thanks Sarah, will look into acquiring that.

Amy Belle - wonderful and beautiful with it.
Machine Head - Halo

Tshetsha Boys - Nwa Pfundla
Alistair Hulett - The Fair Flower Of Northumberland
A line in a book I was reading set up a resonance, been churning on it most of the day and had to search for the lyrics it reminded me of.

Maybe, I'm trying to force it to be summer again, but I've been listening to this song a lot the past couple of weeks.

Peer Gynt was the firs LP I bought - the first record at all.
Our maths teacher used to play classical music at the Thursday assembly - the only ones I attended, didn't bother turning up for the others.
Peer Gynt was one of my favourites and I bought it from my paper round money (I was 13 at the time).
I think that that was the best recording I have heard but it is long gone now. None of the replacements quite match that firs one.
Peer Gynt gets a bad press for the "Hall Of The Mountain King", overused and mostly misused.
My two standout tracks are

and

Which was so sad and beautiful it would bring tears to my eyes and had the same effect on a fairly hard-bitten girlfriend ten years later.
I have two obsessions right now. And neither is remotely similar to the other.
Rubberbandits, with their hit song, "Horse Outside". Amazing and insane.

And then basically, anything by Florence and the Machine, who are just now becoming popular in the US - good for you guys!
Here's one of them, but I must also profess COSMIC LOVE and KISS WITH A FIST and ... basically all of them. But this is the one getting the radio time of late, "Dog Days Are Over":

Yes, yes it was. I even saw a nice lounge-style-on-a-keyboard version on the Youtubes that made me lulz goodly during the last Christmas season.
I was in a D&D game, where someone insisted we all get on this caravan together, and I said, "No thanks, I've a horse just outside," insisting I'd ride along side the caravan rather than divest myself of my steed.
A tablemate then showed me this song, and since then, it's been the go-to phrase for us as a troupe...

I've seen 'em live a couple of times, to be honest I'm amazed they've done as well as they have.

The words of this popped into my head yesterday.
This was a favourite of my father's and it is more than likely that it is still in his 'radiogram' that my daughter rescued when my mother died.
I think it was on the only 10" LP that I have ever seen. (Not enough songs for a 12")
This was posted on another forum this morning, never heard of them before, liking this a lot.

Also a better version of Tzivaeri, still not as good as a live recording I have by Athena Andreadis.

The singer has a fabulous name - Eleftheria Arvinataki. There is a video that shows her and it has to be said she looks pretty damned good but the video and sound quality are not all that great.

She's a bit screechy but I've heard worse.
Youtube doesn't want me embeeding thier stuff, it seems.
So I'll try again. This time, Youtube in English...
Damn earworms.
I'm not normally an opera fan, but have been listening to this guy a lot on youtube. Here he is singing some Puccini in his friend's kitchen:
Besides singing Opera, he's been starring as Jean Valjean in London's West End. Here he is singing Bring Him Home:

"More" by Usher, upbeat and irresistible: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tUH_MHgSeU
"Creep," a haunting cover of the Radiohead song by the Belgian girls' choir Scala & Kolacny Bros. (probably best known for its use in the trailer for The Social Network): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axrqVfuGHh0
"Animal" by the Neon Trees - very catchy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gM7Hlg75Mlo
"What the Hell" by Avril Lavigne - retro-funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NE7dhplqLjs&feature=fvsr
And, for a change of pace, "The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba," one of my favorite pieces by G.F. Handel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMLYMD3Dbq4
^ Mr. Handel has bequeathed some exquisite pieces. One of my favourites is the minuet from "Berenice",
Funniest thing I have watched for ages, in four parts.

Very funny and educational. The Yeoman manages to insult just about everyone in the group.
I used to be on a Polly Harvey site a lot, when it was really active, died the death now and I believe everyone has migrated to MySpace - not going there.
Anyway, Hope Sandoval was quite popular among a lot of Polly fans and I did dip my toe in but couldn't quite form an attachment.
I'm revising that position now - sorry for the racket at the end.

She is rather reminiscent of Ambrosia Parsley.

Sorry, I just HAD to do this. I couldn't help myself.
This one has been playing on the radio, one too many times.
I do like the steampunk though.
