I have angst. I am also quite pleased. Basically, I'm conflicted.

So, two guys at work are retiring. As a member of the local union, I took upon myself to get them retirement presents. After checking with their closer work mates, I confirmed that Scotch might be a good choice.

Today I bought one bottle of 10yo Springbank Port Single Cask and one bottle of 13yo Springbank Madeira Single Cask. I am now facing the terrible prospect of having to give them away, with the most likely outcome of me not getting to even sniff them. Thus, the angst. These are two whiskies I would love to own, so hopefully they will be appreciated gifts, and that idea makes me pleased.

Guess I'll just have to save up. Or retire.

Retire well loved, mate. Those sound like magnificent presents. Try to enjoy the vicariously.

Hopefully one of the recipients cracks it open right then and there!

I forgot to mention that the retirement party will be held at a bar, so no opening your own bottles. Sassafrazzing stupid rules. And after they retire I'll most likely never see them again.

Recent update: I got myself the Madeira Cask, and it is awesome. So much flavour it might as well be rum, whisky and cognac all in one. (Slight exaggeration, yes?) Fantastic, as I knew it would be. Even worth the 100 bucks it cost me.

That sounds fascinating and tasty. I am envious.

My dad always liked to joke that the textbook definition of "mixed emotions" was seeing your mother-in-law drive off a cliff in your new Mercedes.

I've tried The Balvenie 17 year old Madeira Cask but not Springbank.

If the retirement party is held at a bar then no problem at all. Everything will go as well. Just cheers and enjoy.
