(Let's see how many people think I'm 60 based on this.)
Bing Crosby, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Peter, Paul, and Mary, John Denver, Elton John, Phil Collins, James Taylor, Carly Simon, Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Four Tops.
I'd suggest Jim Nabors and Gordon Lightfoot, but Nabors largely covered stuff (and is largely unknown outside of "Andy Griffith"), and Lightfoot has only the one song anyone's heard of. And Fats Domino and Glen Miller are probably a bit old.
And for more modern stuff, Chicago, Boston, U2 and Sting (with or without the Police) would do well. And Nirvana and Foo Fighters ought to have enough good music for a nice eight-song bracket.
Doobie Brothers have already been mentioned, but the Eisley Brothers usually get most in the mix, and a combo bracket of Buddy Holly and Patsy Cline might be nice given their circumstances. Also, Jackie Wilson -- though, again, many people know only "Lonely Teardrops" and "Higher."
Has Elvis already been done?

Whatever you'd like to host would be great. You'll need to pick 8 songs to fight it out with each other.

Re: Future Song Battle Suggestions: Please post some and if you're willing to host it.
I'd like to have a go at it. From the list in the OP, I'd love to do either Madonna or Peter Gabriel.

Who is next? What Group? It is time for the next one.

Re: Future Song Battle Suggestions: Please post some and if you're willing to host it.
Looks like Taumpy Tearrs was interested. If he doesn't respond by the time I get home from work (3 hours from now), I'll start one up and he can get the next one.

Re: Future Song Battle Suggestions: Please post some and if you're willing to host it.
No one else is up? Okay, I'll get one together tonight.

Re: Future Song Battle Suggestions: Please post some and if you're willing to host it.
Who is up for the next Song Battle? We're ready for it to start tomorrow as Madonna completes.

Re: Future Song Battle Suggestions: Please post some and if you're willing to host it.
I've already done it once, so I'm happy to let someone else run the next one, but if nobody steps up by the end of this round, I'll be happy to fire us up some Elvis.

I'll put together one for Dylan to go after Elvis.

Re: Future Song Battle Suggestions: Please post some and if you're willing to host it.
OK, I have put together a Bob Dylan Battle to go when Elvis is done.
I had to make it a 16 song battle. Fucker wrote too much good music.

His new album has at least one great track on it. I have to listen to the whole thing at some point.

Re: Future Song Battle Suggestions: Please post some and if you're willing to host it.
I had to cut off the battle with the Desire album unfortunatly. It was hard enough to weed down to only 16 songs as it was. I was orignally going to do an early acoustic folk bracket (Bob Dylan to the acoustic Bring it all Back Home) an early electric bracket (Bring it all back home to John Wesly Harding) a 1970s bracket (Nashville Skyline to Desire) and a modern (everything after desire)
But while I was able to pick just 4 songs from the early acoustic stuff to go head to head, I couldn't keep the early electric one to only 4 songs without leaving out some really important stuff, so that got expanded to two four song brackets (Bring it all back home and Highway 61 and Blonde on Blonde and John Wesly Harding) and I dropped the modern music bracket.
It was tough. My first pass at the songs I thought should be in the battle was 30 songs long.

What happened here, guys? Anybody interested in doing this again? If so, I'll run the next one.

Re: Future Song Battle Suggestions: Please post some and if you'
Go for it, Taumpy. One thing that might have happened is the song battles went really long (some seemed to take a couple of weeks between rounds), and I think people lost interest/just plain forgot.
-
Just off the top of my head,
The Clash
Iggy & The Stooges.(would this include the newer Stooges albums?)
Chuck Berry
Or a "Gloria" battle. There are enough versions of this song to make a good battle. Them, Shadows of the Knight, The Doors,Jimi Hendrix,101'ers, Patti Smith Group all do excellent renditions of this song. I'm sure there are others too.
