If we averaged 500 posts a day, we'd make it to 1,000,000 posts in about 5 years.

I, myself, am already on my 4th or 5th post for today.
If we had five people posting 500 times a day we would have a daily post count of 2,500. After one week, we would have an additional 17,500 posts. After a year we would have 912,500, plus the 101,000 we have now. Easy!
See, all it takes is a little mathematical knowhow and suddenly all your problems are laid bare.
500 posts a day, assuming you spend 8 hours a day on Mellophant (and why wouldn't you?) would be slightly more than one post per minute. Easy!
And even with flood control, you could easily get two posts per minute in. Although I don't know that we'll have enough time to read everything that gets posted.
Okay, what if we had 500 people posting five times a day?
I think the read to posted ratio would be a bit better.
